Totally agree. I hope more people can open their minds and see this.

Royal families? Kardashians?

Please tell me how creating a sex tape is an acceptable reason to become a millionare.

What about the word "most" you don't understand?

a peachy world where we use removable energy and fix everything bad.

What is this removable energy  and where are we taking it from? The sun? The ground? The air? Dimention W? People inside a simulation? Garbage?

Yeah I know you meant renewable energy

That doesn't necessarily make it fair, particularly when someone starts off in a much better position to earn far more money than most others. Fair assumes everyone is on a level playing field, with the same opportunities, and that's certainly not the case.

It's inherited by birth in a sense. Where you're born is very, very important.

A bum in the closest city can easily earn over $1.90 an hour. Let alone a day.

Granted, a lot of us may not get the same chance but since when did fair mean having equal chances ?

Being fair is the way of life in my eyes ...

Fair, in as far as the dictionary is concerned (at least, when it's not talking about appearance) refers to a state of some sort of competition or contest where both sides start out on equal grounds. People get upset at accusations of cheating in poker, for example, because it means one player has an unfair chance.

It's the same sort of thing here; if people don't start off at the same level, it isn't "fair," so to speak. The saying of "the world's not fair," comes into play here.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

That is almost never the case in the real world so your point is moot ...

Fair NEVER implies an equal starting state ...

Having better or worse starting circumstances is a part of life and all of us have to deal with it in some way ...

What?

Think globally. I'm in the top 0.5% according to the other thread about a similar topic. I work 70ish hours a week to make that possible.

Being born in Australia made this possible. I just took advantage, basically. Wealth is earned. If you're given the opportunity.

Not really, you can always make the possiblity yourself. I for one live in a 3rd world country and 80% of the people I know are wealthy. Most of them earned it through hard work just like you.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I'm not a Bernie-loving liberal who wants everyone to be 100% in life. I know that's impossible.

I just don't want 62 people to be as rich as 3.5 billion. That's my only problem. I've watched many documentaries on people who live on a dollar a day- truly sad for how hard life is for them

Of course it'll take long if we wanted to fix the issues in undeveloped countries. However, think about the religious countries- give them some education, internet, etc, and think how many of them will stop resorting to their superstition beliefs. There can be potential for the production needed to become a developed country. I mean, let's face it. No matter how many times a person from Africa reads their Bible, it won't solve anything. Though, some education is what's needed to make actual change.

What you're saying has been tried before; many, many times over. Attempts have been made by Western governments, charities, the UN, missionaries, non profits, etc. There are two major roadblocks in the way, however.

Number 1 is actually getting the funding for these programs to the right people. Giving funding to governments rarely works, as, more often than not, the majority of the money will simply be taken by less than reputable "public servants." You can try and bring the supplies over yourself, but for things like education, that's extremely difficult to do. You need to either relocate teachers from Western countries (who also need to be well versed in the culture of the country they'll be teaching in, and believe me, there aren't many of those around), or train people to be teachers from the nation in question. The latter is what most attempts have tried, and it's extremely time consuming, extremely costly, and rarely successful, because the schools are still poorly funded, and because...

Number 2: Everything's interconnected. Simply providing better schools, for instance, in an underdeveloped country actually does very little because simply being able to go to school is often considered a luxury. Living conditions are, obviously, awful, many kids have to walk miles to school, and their ability to study at home is severly limited. Lower class American children, who are considered to oftentimes be incapable of escaping their circumstances due to their poor start in life, are far better off than these kids. Improving the schooling won't do much until the entire society is improved. Roads need to be built, easy transportation to school and back needs to be provided, basic utilities need to be installed so that parents/kids spend less time doing chores and more time helping their kids learn/study. And there's no way to do that without going through the governments of the nations involved, which, as mentioned before, are usually highly corrupt and unlikely to actually work with any sort of project.

Sad as hell. I just realized that we spend billions of dollars on space research and people are starving on our own earth. But back on topic, the rich just get richer because they have the knowhow and their tactics, although very effective, often lack morality. Me...I don't care to be rich. A while from now it'll all be useless. But to those who earned their riches, I have nothing but good things to say about you. Economics lacks morality, this is why statistics like this don't necessarily shock me, but they sicken me.
