Super Mario Maker is doing really well and has become a youtube and twitch sensation. Nintendo has started with their "Event Courses" and steadily updates with new levels. If they release a new version of Mario Maker with even more tools, star coins, secrets and so on do you think they will continue with the 'New Super Mario' series or will they only focus on future Mario Maker games?

I think NSMB definitely needs change of formula and I think Nintendo already said something similar, but I dont think Mario Maker don't have anything with it, Mario Maker is more one game than beginning of franchise.

NSMB, or side scrolling Mario games with levels made exclusively by Nintendo without a level creator for users at least, isn't going away anytime soon. I am sure Nintendo views Mario Maker as its own entity in its own space. There will still be a market for the standard 2D Mario, and Nintendo will make another one.

Imho SMM is sort of a way to test waters, Nintendo will be checking constantly the popular levels in SMM and according to the mechanics used in them they'll make levels/new items for the next NSMB games...

I really hope so.
I want a 3D mario like 64, or galaxy instead.

One doesn't exclude the other. Wii had Galaxy 1 and 2 + NSMBU. Wii U has NSMBU (and Luigi) + 3D World + SMM.

They'll make new 2D Mario game. But  i think it will take a while and it will be something different than the 'New' series.

Thats my issue with the Wii U mario games.

sidescroller 1&2, SMM (sidescroller level designer), and a 3D game that tries to pay homage to its old roots, of a 2D sidescroller.

It feels like something is missing. NX needs a really good 3D mario game like mario 64, sunshine, galaxy.

so my "i really hope so" just means I hope they dont release another f***ing 2D sidescroller, before they give us a really good 3D mario game again.

I agree with RolStoppable. New Super Luigi U was probably the last New Super Mario game. Super Mario Maker didn't 2D Mario games; 2D Mario games will come back, but probably under another name (without ''New'' at least).

I don't think Super Mario Maker ended any games, though I do believe that New Super Luigi U was pretty much the end to that series.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I think 3D World type games will replace NSMB as the multiplayer experience. 64/sunshine/galaxy style for the single player/online co-op.
