Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Developers are pushing the Wii U to its limits!

I was impressed even with Nintendoland, which was the first game I played on the wii u. It may not look as good as a ps4 game, but I don't care honestly. Compared to wii games, wii u games look stunning. Could they look better? Of course they could. Would I prefer a Xenoblade X with the new star wars game graphics? Fuck yeah. But for me it's incredible how good it looks compared to Xenoblade wii, which looks simply terrible (though the game is still a fucking masterpiece).

I have the ps3 and nothing has made me want to buy a ps4 yet, but comparing wii/ wii u the bump in quality is really noticeable so I bought it almost day one, just compare mario kart wii and wii u, just wow!

I'm sensing a double standard here...

Any home console after the wii is going to look terrific (tis the life of a non hd console), so I don't see why you would compare the wii u to the wii but compare the ps4 to the ps3. You are holding Nintendo's console to an easier standard. Why wouldn't you compare the ps4 to the wii when deiciding if it interests you

Agreed, except Smash... it doesn't look great at all. Looks like a mid-tier PS3 game, but that's probably due to 1080p60fps.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Typically I don't care, but when you start "justifying" purchases with a bump in quality that depends on the company, then it annoys me. It's dumb.

I also get annoyed when people say "I don't want to buy a ps4 because it has no gamez" or "I don't want a wii u because it is for children." These things are really annoying

Aside from Xenoblade X, I am not sure that Nintendo's focus has really been on pushing hardware the way that western developers do. What's the point when the XOne and PS4 will always be miles ahead in the graphics department?

Irrespective of graphics, I think the more important observation is that Nintendo has been getting progressively better at developing games at the HD standard over the past 3 years. Back in 2013, even a game like Pikmin 3 (which basically was re-using Wii assets) was stumping Nintendo. Now, all of Nintendo's 1st and 2nd party developers are cranking out 720p games and while there are still delays they do seem to be hitting their stride. This is actually really good news for Nintendo heading into the NX, especially if the NX will be producing PS4 level graphics. I think that the Wii U was a necessary step for Nintendo to get back on even footing with Sony and Microsoft... They needed this intermediary, less successful console for Nintendo to make some of the necessary advances that the Wii neglected. Now Nintendo is in a better position to go guns-a-blazing with the NX if they choose to take Sony and MS on directly.

He didn't say PS4 has no games though or anything of the sort, to me his comment came across more as him or her saying that the PS4 has not yet met their expectations of it based on their experience with the previous console, your reaction to it just seems ott.

Who cares?

Buy the system you want because it has the games you want to play. Use logic.

I like the PS4, but Wii U has great Nintendo games that are tons of fun. Xbox One also has some decent exclusives, like Sunset Overdrive, Halo, and Gears, but I prefer Playstation exclusives like Uncharted. Everybody has their own right to choose what system they prefer. Who cares if the Wii U is pushing the limits?
