Forums - PC Discussion - PC Exclusive Planet Coaster: Press event interviews and Community creations

Planet Coaster, a CMS (Construction Management Sim) created by Frontier Developments is looking to be the spiritual successor to RCT (Rollercoaster Tycoon) but bringing with it their own style and innovations.

Since 5 months ago they released their initial pitch trailer and a month ago their first dev diary showing us what they have been doing in short with the game. A day ago they also released their second dev diary outlining what they allow the user to do in terms of editing the terrain.

Trailer:

Dev Diary #1:

Dev Diary #2:

Game is set for release Q4 2016 (PC only) and so far is looking pretty amazing so far. I know I'm also going to be playing the upcoming RCT as well but Planet Coaster sold me on the trailer, style and dev diaries alone.

Update

Devs have released two new short clips with one being a focus on modular building and the other terrain editing:

Looks like they are really letting you go all out with what you can do.

New dev diary #3.

Park Security guard animations:

New Q&A session with Art director John Laws:

Livestream (currently) Q&A session with Lead Artist Sam Denney with talks about the rides within the game:

Devs have uploaded community creations as well as press interviews:

Nice, walls and roofs. It already looks better than the blasphemous RCT World.

EDIT: Having watched everything, this actually makes me a happier person. Could it be? Will we finally get something good, after a long decade?

Have been keeping an eye on this and, at this early stage, it looks very, very promising in terms of visuals, amusements, and map customisation.

It could be what I've been wanting in terms of a rollercoaster sim for a whole generation+. I just hope they deliver.

My one main concern at the moment is the 'tycoon' element. In Zoo Tycoon there really wasn't much of a tycoon/business element and that's actually my favourite part of the old Rollercoaster Tycoon games.

Yeah I am hoping over the coming months that they at elast show us a vid explaining the business side of the game, though I do like these kind of Sims I also don't want the game ebcoming an absolute spreadsheet fest, at least somewhere in the middle.

Yeah when the devs behind RCT showed us their trailer of the game it looked quite bad with the models looking kinda ugly and the trailer making them sound arrogant, they have improved a bit since then but I feel Frontier have captured the charm and interest with their original iutch and their dev diaries definitely have me more hooked, the trailer alone gave me that Pixar style charm that I really love and I really dig their art style which will no doubt make the game timeless or at least longer lasting than the likes of RCT.

Yeah it does. I've given up on RCT, but now that Frontier's releasing footage every once in a while I'll keep my eye on this. Still play RCT2 quite regularly.

The game looks very good, but it also looks like it could be a little intimidating. I hope they include some pre-build stores and rides.

Btw, there are some videos of the Beta of RCT: World, and it doesn't look as bad as that infamous trailer.

Thanks for letting us all know lol. I also enter threads of games im not interested in just to proclaim my un interest in said game, its always a great way to show no interest i believe xD.

Thanks for saying exactly what I was going to say.

OT: The game is really giving us plenty of tools to work with, but I wouldn't mind if they do a video building a ride, which allegedly is what this game will be about.

I wouldn't mind seeing that myself and I imagine we'll see some basic rides probably during Jan since they just released two clips within Dec along with a Vlog.

Looks like fun, now - if they only had servers with couple thousand players, PvP, artillery and destruction... (sorry, that old MMO devil in me made me say that - blame him =))

On a serious (?) note, my niece dreams of becoming an architect (she's 11), I guess she might like this!?
