Forums - Gaming Discussion - Amazon US November monthly bestsellers and general Amazon-based discussion.

9 hours after last update:

#12 PS4 Nathan Drake Bundle (up 1)
#13 PS4 Black Ops Bundle (up 1)
#17 PS4 Star Wars Standard Bundle (up 1)
#18 PS4 Star Wars LE Bundle (same)
#24 XB1 Fallout Bundle (down 1)
#44 XB1 Gears Bundle (up 1)
#72 XB1 Madden Bundle (down 7)

PS4 - 6 bundles, 4 in the top 100
XB1 - 12 bundles, 3 in the top 100

The Gears Bundle now includes Forza Horizon 2.
The Madden Bundle now includes Forza Horizon 2
The Fallout Bundle includes a free copy of Fallout 3
The Halo Bundle includes a free copy of Forza Horizon 2
The FIFA Bundle includes a free copy of Forza Horizon 2
The Nathan Drake + ACS Bundle now includes FF Type O

There's going to be no such ambiguity this month with the Black Ops/ Sar Wars preorders and those 4 PS4 bundles consistantly being ahead for nearly the whole month.

I really hope both consoles have a stellar november to make up for that godawful november.

Just think about it. The PS4 in october 2015 sold less than it did in october 2014, despite a 50$ price cut, while the XBO in october 2015 sold only 7k more than the PS4 did in october 2014, despite it costing 50$ less than the PS4 did at the time, and having Halo 5 release.

That should put things into perspective as to how lacklustre numbers for both consoles were.

The most interesting aspect of next months npd will be if amazon is good at calculating the ratio of sales. Because so far, and bar something drastic on BF, the PS4 sales according to amazon with preorders and everything mean its lead right now should be HUGE.

I've been wondering this for awhile but why does Microsoft have so many bundles going? I can't even think of what they all are.

Also given Halo's lower then expected sales is it possible Microsoft as a last minute effort will throw free copy's of Halo 5 into some of these other bundles? Is there even enough time before Black Friday to do that?

I think if Sony didnt have COD and BF bundles in October, then Sony would have easily won the month. The BF and COD bundles took away from PS4 sales in October. Reminds of May when Xbone won because Batman bundles were eating up PS4 sales as people were pre-ordering the batman bundle which released in June.

We can't say that for certain but it's a reasonable assumption.

I think it got hampered by the main price cut bundle being the NDC one. Uncharted are fine enough games on their own, but it's yet another bundle featuring last gen games. It's time to cut the cord on those strategies. People want to buy a new system with new games that take advantage of them. The Gears bundle didn't set the world on fire, and that was a complete remake with its multi still in tact. Bundles like AC: Unity, Batman and Destiny and such are always the right way to go.

Very good assumption. I can't stand remasters anymore. I want something new, showing what this gen is capable of.

Well a ~29K gap between Xb one and PS4 pretty much guarantees that the Halo 5 bundle pre-orders well and truly made the difference between Xb one winning and 2nd place. Out of the 305K Xb one's sold during October I would be surprised if less than 40K of that was pre-October pre-orders. Heck even if only 10% of Xb one sales was pre-orders that still makes up more than the difference between Xb one winning and coming 2nd.

Basically, Amazon correctly reflected the buying patterns of people during October, and it made a pretty reasonable indication of pre-order effect. Even though I would normally not regard Amazon as a good predictor of how close the sales are, it seems like this month Amazon indicated it would be a fairly close month, which it was.

Long may Amazon reign as the best predictor of NPD hardware.

Notable in the software department: Complete failure to predict anything other than Halo 5 number 1.

Here is the NPD top 11 with the corresponding rank of the top sku on Amazon, if it made it into the top 100.

1. Halo 5: Guardians (XBO) 2. NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - Xb one #57)
3. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (PS4, XBO) (Amazon - PS4 #31)
4. Madden NFL 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #62)
5. WWE 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #67)
6. FIFA 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #11)
7. Destiny: The Taken King (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #61)
8. Yoshi's Wooly World (NWU) (Amazon - #27)
9. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (PS4) (Amazon - #20)
10. Rock Band 4 (XBO, PS4) (Amazon - Xb one #74)
11. Guitar Hero Live (Amazon - Not in top 100)

So placed in order of top sku on Amazon we have:

1. Halo 5: Guardians (XBO) 6. FIFA 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #11)
9. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (PS4) (Amazon - #20)
8. Yoshi's Wooly World (NWU) (Amazon - #27)
3. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (PS4, XBO) (Amazon - PS4 #31)
2. NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - Xb one #57)
7. Destiny: The Taken King (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #61)
4. Madden NFL 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #62)
5. WWE 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3) (Amazon - PS4 #67)
10. Rock Band 4 (XBO, PS4) (Amazon - Xb one #74)
11. Guitar Hero Live (Amazon - Not in top 100)

Super Mario Maker ranked higher than all games apart from Halo 5 and Fifa (PS4)
Zelda Triforce Heroes ranked just behind AC:S
Until Dawn ranked higher than the highest sku for all games in the NPD ranked below AC:S on Amazon
Splatoon also appeared ahead of many of the games that got into the NPD top 11, and a handful of other games.

So what have we learned? Ignore software people. Amazon is terrible on Software aside from the highly predictable, which seems to be confined to franchises we know are huge and which have at least one sku in the top 10. One thing Amazon was reasonable at, but not 100% was picking the top sku for the multiplats that appeared in the top 10.

I agree with you Binary Solo, I also agree with those that speculate the Star Wars and Black Ops Bundles cannibalised PS4 sales in October, although it's still less than I thought it would sell.
