Forums - PC Discussion - Laptop suggestion

Hello folks.

I'm aiming to get my GF a decent laptop this Christmas - so she'd finally get off my poor Lenovo for her LoL needs -. I'd like to get something that's got decent power for gaming - MMOs and the like - and which could be considered at least reliable.

At the moment my aim is this:

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-X550JX-DB71-15-6-Notebook-Laptop/dp/B00Z4UC0F4

Would anyone have a better suggestion in about the same price range - i.e. max. 800$ -?

You want a dedicated graphics card in it.

The laptop you linked has a decent CPU, but thats about it.

You can find much better suited gameing Laptops in that price range.

This one is 30$ cheaper and much stronger (graphics wise):

Intel Core i7 4720HQ

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 2 GB  <----- this is the key part.

8gb DDR3 pc1600

1TB HDD

Well, that GeForce GTX 950M 2Gb is what got me to this model honestly.

macbook pro retina ;)

You picked the model without a dedicated graphics card, the one with one is about $100 more ;)

Just from looking around just a little bit, I found this one that would be alright for MMOs:

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-573G-59C3-2-20GHz-GeForce-Bluetooth4-0/dp/B0105JD1HE/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1443472039&sr=1-1&keywords=Acer+Aspire+E5-573G-59C3

And its lower than the budget you said, so you can perhaps use that extra money for perhipherals and the like :)

GOD NO!

It has a "Intel Core i5-5200U" which is like a dual core tiny 15w (not sure how much TPD they have) CPU for ultra books.

Its MUCH much weaker than the CPU the others have a i7 4720HQ (these are like 45w cpus, that spank those tiny 15w ones arse in performance).

Its 940M is also a big step down from a 950M.

The one I linked for 829$ has a I7 4720HQ + Geforce 950m.

Its pretty decent value I think.

My bad. Was looking on Amazon for the model I was researching at Romanian retailers XD.

While I am aware of some of these problems, he doesn't want to fork out too much money, so i'm trying to find something cost-efficient while still being good enough.

That being said, there is still room in the buget and better laptops out there, its best to just resaerch what is required for the games she plays and then decide what laptop to buy from there.

this works:

------>  $829

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 2 GB
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ
  • 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD
  • 15.6" FHD 1920 x 1080
  • 15.0" x 9.9" x 1.0"-1.2" 5.4 lbs.
  • DL DVD+-RW/CD-RW

Its honestly decent value considering how strong the CPU & GPU in this one is, for only 829$.
