Forums - Gaming Discussion - Publishers need to focus on online multiplayer centric games or else they're going to be f*cked in the future.

Lol at people naming witcher 3 or batman. Look at Titan Fall. A new ip that sold over 5 million and more than witcher 3/batman. Also, it wasn't on the ps4 like these other games. I guarantee you publishers are seeing this. Takes less effort to make these games with a better reward. Only very few single player games are doing well, but they cost a lot more money and time. Look how long it takes GTA5 to be made or Fallout/MGS.

a mediocre game that had its fanbase die out in a matter of weeks. We'll see more of these types of titles, but don't expect to see single player games go away any time soon. By the way, The Witcher 3 has sold 6m+ copies.

A mediocre game and yet it sold that much. Imagine if it was good and had good word of mouth. Also, you realise that The Witcher 3 was released on the PS4 unlike Titanfall, right?

Yeah, but the amount of advertisements for The Witcher 3 were extremely low in comparison to that of Titanfall. Everyone thought it was the second coming of Call of Duty due how many advertisements Microsoft threw down peoples throat. Similar to Destiny.

Tell that to evolve, iirc that one bombed.

Also didn't assassins creed get rid of its MP mode?

Evolve shipped 2.5M copies in 3 months. 1.13M sold physically according to VGC. Steamspy has 0.4M owners for Evolve so 1.01M physiscally sold for the X1 and PS4 and 0.4M digitally on PC on Steam. And that's despite the massive backlash over the DLC.

My guess is that the game would have sold much worse if it was just single player.

The Witcher 3 had a $35M marketing budget. I'm sure that bought a decent amount of advertisements.

I'll settle this issue - single player games do well if they're open world games.

Moving the goalposts, yet still false

Just makes you wonder how much they spent on Titanfalls considering how many more ads were on television when it was relevant (all two weeks of it).

Nopes. My first post in this topic said as much.

It's not just your post, and how much is wrong with it, it's how you present yourself in it, and in the subsequent comments you make that make me really dislike the whole shebang. 5 thumbs down, and another reminder to stay away from the ones with visible stink lines. They WILL smell.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

It's always good (and mature) to come in and start a thread by saying "I don't give a shit what any of you all have to say, my opinion matters to me more than yours". If that were true, what's the point of even starting a thread then? If you already know your opinion, and claim not to care at all about anyone else's, then why even tell anyone your opinion? In hopes that people will pour in (after your already confrontational intro), and agree with what you have to say? Buy why would you care whether they agree with you or not, when you've already clearly stated that everyone else's opinion means little to you.

It's an odd modern internet dichotomy we seem to have, of people wanting their opinions to be heard, but not giving a damn about hearing the opinions of anyone else. They want their own views to be validated and recognized by others, but don't care about recognizing, much less respecting, anyone else's views. Just another extension of the overall "everyone wants to be heard, but nobody wants to listen" syndrome.

Regardless of the poor framing and lack of tact, no, honestly, the industry does NOT need more multiplayer online games. It needs more GOOD games, period. And far too many big franchises are already focused heavily on multiplayer, while being VERY light on single player content (not surprisingly, mostly shooters), such as CoD, Battlefield, Destiny, Titanfall, etc. etc.

That is NOT the direction the industry needs to head further in.
