Forums - PC Discussion - Help! How do I make folders to always display content as "List", can I do that? (Windows 7)

I want to make folders to display their contents as "List" in the "Change your view" option.

I want to make a folder to open up and immediately display the contents in that manner without me having to manually change the view from "Large Icons", "Tiles" or "Details" or whatever.

Sometimes I change the option to display contents as "List" and it remains that way for a while before it randomly reverts to other views. I want to permanently display folder content as "List", it is easier for me to read the content that way and appears to take my laptop less time to show the files in a folder, as it doesn't have to take time displaying thumbnail previews/pictures or additional details.

I use Windows 7 in this laptop. I run CCleaner regularily (but folders revert to other content views even if I don't use it).

I go to a folder and click on "Properties", "Customize" "Optimize this folder for:" but none of those options give me the much desired "List" view I so desperately look for.

I call thee PC Masters of Tweaks and all Things Windows to tell me how the Hell do I accomplish this, if there is even a way to make things show up as List ALWAYS in a folder.

Thank you for stopping by and possibly helping me out.

Have you tried putting your PC on the freezer? Leave it there a couple of hours and then take it out and thaw it, there you go! Like a new one!

Got some lewd pictures that we want to hide do we?

Not sure if you can do what you are trying to do with windows by default since I havn't cared enough to do try it myself but... I know that you can either:

a) Change the icon to static so that it doesn't show a preview of the picture/video by going into folder options > view > check the "Always show icons/thumbnails" if you are just trying to hide lewd icons

b) You can install a third party "file explorer" and get ur view that way by downloading and installing something like Explorer++

Edit: There is also a third option but it won't make it default though. It will just apply the settings to the folders that are like that folder. For example, if you are in a folder full of pictures and you view by list, any other folder that has pictures will also be in list format. The way to do that is:

1. Open a folder and make changes as you like.

2. Press Alt to display the menu bar. Click Tools -> Folder options.

3. Click View tab.

4. Press the "Apply to folders" button.

5. Click Apply and click OK.

Edit 2: Whoops, Pokoko already suggested what I edited before I pressed submit but yea, its about the samething although a bit wonky

Organize > Folder and search options > view

There should be a button that lets you apply to all folders of the same type. It's still going to depend a lot of your Library folder settings. For instance, click Explorer and it will show your libraries, then Left click > Properties and you can optimize them all for Documents or General Items.

I tried what you guys suggested and looks like it worked! I ran CCleaner and all and restarted the computer after clicking on that Apply To Folders option on pretty much every folder I regularily open, and after it booted all folders showed files as List.

I feel like I can do stuff at half the time it used to take me before. :D Thank you guys so much. :D
