No kidding. The OT rules in the NFL are the dumbest one-sided shit imaginable. Whoever gets to have possession first has a massive advantage.

Watching the replay of that coin toss it seems like the ref jedi mind tricked the pats into kickng the ball off in ot.

Wasn't really that far-fetched, Pats are really really hurting right now. |
But...Jets...
Also: Panthers....lost?

Patriots depth can only cover so much when injuries pile up, and this year is pretty bad both offensively and defensively, though offensively they're in much worse position. I think they went through 3 LT's in this game alone.

It's still better than college ot with its stupid football version of HORSE.
So ESPN posted a transcript of what happened at the coin toss. It seems like Matthew Slater thought that the ref was asking him what side of the field he wanted to defend...
Blakeman: "Heads is the call."
Blakeman: "It is heads."
Blakeman: "You want to kick?"
Slater: "We want to kick, that way."
Slater: "Hey, we won. Don't we get to choose?"
Blakeman (mic off): "You elected to kick."
...that's one way to lose a game.

See, at least Cousins can rightfully claim that his idiocy was a panic move, and it didn't cost him the game.

Slater did what Belichick said to do, he according to post-game question, he asked BB 3 times.
Slater says Belichick told refs before captains went to midfield that Patriots wanted to kick.

Then I have absolutely no idea what Belichick was thinking. I guess the conspiracy theory thing would be to suggest that he'd rather play the Jets than the Steelers in a potential divisional matchup and has enough confidence in his team to beat Miami next week, but that seems incredibly un-Belichick-like. Wind wasn't a factor. Maybe he thought that little of the Jets' offense?

Only thing I can think of is playoff seeding. Otherwise it'll remain a mystery, because we know BB's already on to Miami.
