Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer: Fewer 3rd party exclusives, focus is on 1st party

Good news. MS and Sony waste their money on third party marketing, DLC, and timed exclusives.

Thank god. I felt the Tomb Raider deal was a Don Mattrick's era decision. I made a thread about my frustrations regarding time deals http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=206286&page=1. However, I thought buying Gears of War and Minecraft ip was a smart decision from Microsoft. If you are going to do third party deals, lock the deal forever by buying the ips. Force the Gears of War and Minecraft fans to buy an xbox one over your competitor (playstation and nintendo). Also, when you do buy ips, make sure they're worth it and have a decent amount of fans following the franchise. Don't go for niche games that no one has interest in even if they score well.

so basically they can't afford the 3rd party games like they used to because if ps4 sales.

good to invest in 1st party but this is being done because there is no alternate .

Yes, I said a long time ago that this time would eventually come and it's almost upon us.

Yeah Microsoft can't afford third party games........

Don't bother with them. They're obviously Playstation fans. I guess Recore, Scalebound, Halo, Gears, Forza,Fable,Killer Instinct, Quantum Break, Sea of Theives, Crackdown and more isn't a sign of Microsoft building a great first party lineup. Not to say Sony isn't ,but still.  Microsoft still does third party deals like Madden and fallout. They just rather put more emphasis on first party games.

Yeah MS is putting more effort into its first-party. Good stuff, might buy an XB1 down the line.

But sometimes a response is needed so they don't spread false information as long as it is civil like how I responded to something regarding Gears Ultimate Edition and I was right about it.

Proud to be a Californian.

This might be bad. What was the last succesful ip that a microsoft studio created? Forza?
Unless he is considering external studios first party, then it should be business as usual.

Gears of war was the big new ip of last gen that did well.
