I prefer Resistance: Fall of Man over Gears as well, IMO Gears offered lame storytelling, poor acting performances, more caged feel and the endboss and tank section was unimpressive and really annoying. Resistance had more stuff going on, while Gears felt a little slow in comparison.

In terms of graphics polish Gears easily bests Resistance, the cover system was a good choice (inspired by a shooter game on the PS2 I might add). This year I think Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 will go significantly beyond what Gears of War 1 & 2 will provide in graphical excellence, allowing people to look back and do less hyped comparisons of graphics and concentrate on the game design itself.

Leo-J: you are out of your mind if you think RFOM is 16 hours long. 8-9 hours max.

Maybe you guys are just slow....

Bloody hell, you must be really fast, 8-9 hours to complete Resistance!!!

I've been playing it for a good while now, since getting the game at Xmas...okay I'm not playing it all the time, but it certainly it taking me a hell of alot longer to complete than Uncharted did.  Seeing at Resistance has 30 levels, you must be completing like 3-4 levels in a hour...you're really good.

Or maybe you're saying it will take 8-9 hours second time round to complete the game.  But anyway at the moment, I must have spend around 20+ hours on it at the very least.

Ok. I am not trying to flame or blast anyone with this post ...

I finally started playing Resistance on my PS3. After playing the game for nearly 4 hours, I have to admit I walked away from it thinking 'Is that it?' I have played Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3, as well as Gears O War, Bioshock, Call of Duty 2 and COD 4 and other shooters and I can honestly say, as a FPS fan, Resistance is a very forgetable title.

All this time, I have been hearing folks brag on it,  saying it was better than Gears and truth be told, I see elements of the game that are cool - that tagging bullet thing is legit and the enemies are intense, but I dropped the controller and just had to ask OWNERS and folks who have experience with the game what's up with it.

Ok - as I stated, I'm not trying to flame, but I want to know what makes folks say this game is *all that?*

Wow, each to his own I guess but I most certainly don't agree to that at all. Yeah, call me fanboy all you want but as an over all game, R:fom just has way more and better substance than GeOW.

The one thing GeOW had going to it was that it was jaw dropping pretty but other than that it lacked quality substance to it. I'd liken it to fast food in that regard. R:fom just had way more substance in story, gameplay via it's weaponary, online, and though some didn't like the presentation of R:fom too much (or so I hear) it certainly had better feel to it than GeOW.

Yeah, I know you'll call me your generic nerd insult - "fanboy"!! - but that's how I see it. R:fom was just a better gaming experience in general for me and that's incredible for a day one release product. Yes, GeOW was a fun game but wasn't something I'd pine to play over and over again. I'll leave that to the 360 fanbase.

The fact that anyone would actually compare a day one product to one that came out a full year later on it's respective console should be proof enough that R:fom was/is and special game. You don't get anyone trying to compare PD:0 to R:fom or Killzone II do you?

Resistance was a good game , but nothing special.

Well I'ma mention a few things :P

1st and foremost.!) Play this game co-op! The co-op in that game is absolutely NUTS, they ramp the enemy's by truckloads, and the game seems almost created for it, almost every area in that game presents plenty of flanking/strategic opportunities. I played the single player and it was ok, just not amazing. Co-op is insane!

2nd.) The weapons are FUN. If your a regular run-and gunner (which you don't seem to be because you mentioned Tagging +9 kudo's btw), you'll absolutely LOVE some of the weapons they provide you. Secondary fire's make this game's shooting elements so fantastic! You'll get some pretty zany weapons and you'll be really surprised by how well certain weapons will handle certain situations.

3rd.) Man do you get game for your buck. This is a surprisingly long game. My friend and I on co-op passed it after some 14-18 hours of gameplay o.o; Then again we died numerous times on Medium setting :) (it's pretty damn hard xD) so we might have extended the time by quite a bit >_>; But pretty damn long none-the-less

4th.) Launch title with 40 man online multi-player :P Yup, no joke xD 40 player online matches the day I purchased it :x Not too shabby as far as consoles are concerned. Some very insane matches, and as you've seen with the weapon selection it can be very hectic :D

5.) The multi-player was geared for constant action. Standing still is VERY hard to do in this games multi, almost EVERY weapon in the game has the ability to flush you out of cover, so having full knowledge and practice of weapons makes this game simply brilliant. Another title that falls in the easy to play, hard to master category.

I also don't mean to contribute to a flame war or anything, but after beating both Resistance and Gears of War. I personally found resistance to be the better game of the two by a LANDSLIDE victory. Gear's lack of weapons, repetitive nature of the enemy's, insanely short-sided story mode, and very lack-luster multi-player just hammered that game down so badly in my opinion. However, it did have better graphics than resistance ;)

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

@ Magnific0

I wanted more big bosses

Resistance 2 should provide just that, Epic boss battles! Some concept boss teasers:

From a technical perspective Resistance 1 and 2 should be like night and day due to technology advancements.
