Oh now i get it!!! Pretty smart thing to do.

Right but physical is going to continue to be the dominant way to buy games because of these ridiculous digital prices. I preordered MGSV and The Witcher 3 a few months ago for £35 each, I preordered Uncharted 4 a few months ago for £33... or I could buy them for £59.99 on the PlayStation Store...No thanks i'll stick with physical.

Also, the tushies of retailers taste like chocolate.

That's rubbish. They stay more expensive because the devs can get away with a higher price for longer and it allows for the odd purchase out of ignorance/convenience.

It would be interesting to see digital sales for a game like Watch Dogs for the past couple weeks to see sales compared to those in retail.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

makes sense though.

If they have a ton of inventory on the shelves they may never sell it if digital is a better deal. Inventory sitting on a store shelves is expensive. That is retail space that a retailer could use on other product. Also publisher pay for retail space. It behoves them to minimize the footprint.

Digital is just not as flexible as retail. Compare changing the pricetags in a few Walmarts against changing pricetags on millions of PCs and consoles.

That makes sense, but it sucks for people who buy games digitally. At least on Steam, through Steam sales the savings is passed onto the consumer.

So... he's just listing reason's why digital will never ever take over?

They may be able to keep selling games long after they've been out of print on a digital store but that doesn't mean people won't go for the £10 second hand copy before they even consider the £45 digital one.

Hmm, pie.

If that's why they stay so high, how does he explain why they start so much higher than physical in the first place then?

Yeah many digital games cost 70€ in the store, its a ripp off. Also physical games are often times cheaper than both digital versions on console and pc.

Screw pricing, what about digital refunds? Steam does it, so PSN and XBL should too, under the same conditions. Offering digital refunds will also help drive digital sales, people will take a punt on digital games if they know they can get a full refund if they end up not liking it.
