The Xbox is too american it like tell me U.S.A only. It don't care about Jrpg or support japanese developer or help localize japanese to the west. It mind set to have shooter / sport game /racing game support yearly that release every yeah with not thing new. It need diversity in the library of the game.

The title of the thread is about the problems of MS' first party games, isn't it? "Lack of diversity" is maybe the number one problem of MS' first party games, that's all. MS should have realize this by now...

When it comes to Graphics I agree the only game that looks to challenge Ryse is Quantum Break and Possibly Scalebound but we will have to wait and see.
Ms is doing a lot better with diversity though with Scalebound, Recore and Crackdown on the way the 1st party lineup is looking great.

this was even since the PS360 era. Imo even MGS 4 looks better than almost all 360 games and that was in 2008. Its not about Money because MS has enough its about working culture and the fact that the PS4 is more powerful. Because games like the order 1886, driveclub and bloodborne havent demanded a big budget. Ready at dawn for example made PSP games before the Order 1886.

XBox problem is the lack of diversity, it's the "dudebro" console with shooters and racing games (or at least, it's the Xbox image).
Sony has great looking games, fewer shooters and racing games, but has some family-friendly games (LBP, R&C...), and a lot more japanese and niche games (Dreams and TLG last E3 for example). That's, for me, the biggest difference between both consoles.

Agreed. Much like Nintendo deals with "kiddy" image Microsoft deals with "dudebro" image.  If you care little to nothing about shooters (like me) the first party line up is generally bare.  I give them credit for Lost Odyessy and Sunset Overdrive type projects as they interest me.  Hard to blame them, as Microsoft looks at sales data and sees they sell way less and abandons the idea in favor of safer bets like another Halo or Gears.  It really wouldn't matter to me how pretty Gears looks in terms of graphical fiedlity if the aesthetics and gameplay don't appeal to me in the slightest.  Now, if Microsoft came out with something like Shadow of the Colosuss or Sly Cooper get my attention.

Success breeds complacency. Complacency breeds failure. Only the paranoid survive.

Many would consider that Microsoft was highly successful with the XB360. I feel that they became complacent due to the fact that they were not releasing tons of blockbuster hits towards the end of the generation. I also feel that they were leaning on the multiplatform games looking better on the XB360 instead of diversifying their portfolio of games. The biggest mistake that Microsoft made last generation was not creating stronger relationships with developers, especially Japanese developers, during a time when they took a large marketshare away from Sony.

I don't feel that it is a lack of graphics or framerate that is keeping Microsoft behind. I feel that Microsoft needs to branch out into different genres or at least create new IPs. So yes, I feel that they need to drop Halo and Gears of War so that they can ignite some passion into their 1st party studios. Bungie is a prime example of a studio that got burnt out on Halo and wanted to create something new and innovative. I understand that Killzone is not on the same level as Halo, but Guerilla Games seems to have dropped Killzone in place of Horizon: Zero Dawn. Microsoft should follow this example since Sony seems to be doing very well.

I am all for Microsoft keeping Halo and Gears around just like Nintendo does with Zelda and Mario; however, Microsoft needs a Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Kirby, Yoshi, etc etc to keep people interested. I just don't think Microsoft has the first party studios right now to compete.  I think they need to provide something fresh and innovative to create that spark.  If Microsoft continues on this path of complacency by pumping out the same franchishes, (Halo, Gears, and Forza), then they will only fail.  With Halo, Forza, and Gears, they distinguish themselves from Nintendo and Sony; however, they don't distinguish themselves from THEMSELVES (XB360).  THAT is what is killing the XB1.  New IPs on a new console is key.

I would not say that MS was complacent coming into the X1 gen, instead I would say narrow focus. This is where MS lack of experience and Sony gaining more experience came into play. MS forgot what got them their position with the 360 while Sony learned how they lost their position. Sony figured out that they needed to appeal to gamers first then everyone later while MS tried to appeal to everyone first then gamers later. Both companies will end up doing the same thing its just that the order or the decisions shaped the outcome we see today.

I agree with the OP that MS doesn't seem to be interested in pushing games that really just look great first. This was the same situation for each generation of Xbox. Sony on the other hand has always had a game that went all out even if it did not reach the playability people wanted. When you think about it, it makes sense as MS is not a retail company so they primary do not think on that level. Sony is a retail company and so they know and understand better the market.

Skim through this and this is what I got out of it:
Bashing 60fps, no one wants it? What in the hell makes you think that? If it was 30fps people would be bashing and whining about that instead of splitscreen.  Halo 5 looks amazing and highly polished.

FH2 is probably my favorite racing game ever. At least top 3. I don't know what you are talking about.

Uncharted looks fun to watch, I don't even have to play it to experience it. Not a bad thing, just how it is.
you sound like a guy that prefers 1080p/30fps to 900p/60fps, which is what Uncharted should be. Idk why anyone disagrees with this.

Ryse looks great, but why does that have to be a standard? I am sure Gears 4 will look superior.

And news flash, Ryse looks better than every PS4 game with the exception of maybe two. AND IT WAS A LAUNCH GAME, AMAZING.

GRAPHICS GRAPHICS GRAPHICS!!! CONSOLE GRAPHICS!

So IIUYC , 2 years later 1080p/60FPS is not important any more?
