Forums - Nintendo Discussion - In theory, if Nintendo never gets back AAA 3rd party support than would u rather have a powerful or weak console?

I guess it doesn`t matter to me, as long as the console is affordable, and has great games...

I want power, but power costs money. Outside of the $600 PS3 I rarely here anyone bitch about the costs of Sony or Microsoft consoles. Seems to me most people expect Nintendo to be priced cheaply, kind of a double standard. Who knows, maybe I'm just not listening to the right people ... i just don't think many would be willing to pay for a powerful NX system the way they would for a Sony or Microsoft box.

People weren't too pleased with the $499 price of the XBone when it first launched. I think the magic number for how much a console can cost is around $400.

For me, what I personally think they should do is build a system for $300, but build it with the best possible parts they can. Forget about backwards compatibility for one gen to maximize their consoles performance, which should get their consoles back on track for backwards compatibility the gen after that without nearly the sacrifices.

As far as will the NX be a disappointment if this is not the route they go? No, I don't just judge a gen by the hardware, and graphics have really gotten to the point of having to look at side by sides to see any differences (which usually only amount to "there is more particle effects in pic A", or "pic B has more shafts of light going through the trees"). If we get more of the games they are pushing with the Wii U, like Project Zero, The Devil's Third, Bayonetta, embracing the competitive Smash crowd, allowing others to try their hand on Nintendo's IP like Hyrule Warriors and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, ect then I'll be on board the next gen train.

Power wouldn't mean much especially if it hits the mark of being similar to Xbone/PS4 powerful.

It depends on what they do with it. I'm one of the few people that actually appreciates their low energy consumption approach to console making, so I'd love to see then go further into that direction.
Contrary to that I feel like the WiiU is too underpowered for it's own gimmick though, struggling to render games twice at acceptable framerates and with decent graphics to accompany them. In the early life of the system we were promised multiple gamepad support wich has been scrapped in the meantime, likely because the system isn't powerful enough to pull it off.
I don't mind a less powerfull budget system, but keep it constistent. Don't try to get the price of a highend system down so much that you compromise the vision statement in the process and compromise on all fronts, like with the wiiU.
