Yep unless hit the lottery again, the decline will continue though its very hard to believe the next console wont sell better than Wii U.

I think I said this before in an lder thread, but I think Nintendo is gonna have to pull off some moracles of they want their neww console to be a big hit.

The million dollar question is how could it possibly do much worse than the WiiU? The sad thing is I cant think of how it will do much better.

Nintendo core fans would all wait and see, on how Nintendo wanted to push forward. NX could really be a deal breaker in a sense, if they unify their devices. what will happen are they going to PS4/X1's architecture and add 3rd party games. or they'll do it even more unique than before and more into the smartphone side type of gaming.  it may be bought, but 2016 presentation would be key to their next gen console.

Nintendo needs to do 1 of 2 thing IMO.

1. Launch a quality piece fo hardware that plays games at a similiar level as the gamecube did. (Yes they wont be the market leader, but they will do well)

2. Go third party and sell a crap ton of games on the PS4/XB1

Please. Please. Please. DO NO launch another gimmick driven console. The Wii Made you a ton of money, but many of your most devoted fans (LIKE ME) lost faith, the WiiU was just another kick in the nuts. I  am a PS4 gamer now. The PS4 reminds me of the SNES and N64 because of its focus on games. I think Nintendo can still do it, but they literally have 1 more chance. (with me and the general market)

Also important to note is the fact that the console market has grown, while the numbers of Nintendo consoles sold has declined. A system with the dominance of the SNES would probably have sold 100m+ in todays market.

What most don't seem to consider is that even with the longest resume' of the remaining competitors (Nintendo), six gens is a pretty darn low number to draw any predictive conclusions from, not to mention each generation is an entirely different environment from the last.

Looking for trends there is a waste of time.

who knows? maybe Nintendo will come to their senses, make a powerful Gen 9 console, embrace 3rd party devs and online features, and turn things around

Of course the NX would break the cycle. The NX just needs to sell around 15m to break it, which shouldn't be too difficult unless of course Nintendo messes up again.
