Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Are the new elites RROD free?

Wii has reportedly 1 to 2% failure rate.
PS3 is 0% failure on hardware. "If you argue this claim than you are trolling and should be banned for anti-Sony flaming"

That's a rediculous statement.  No hardware device more sophisticated than a brick has a 0% failure rate. Several posters to this site have already expressed Blu-ray drive motor failures, even though the percentage seems to be very low... it's not zero.

I'm thinking of buying a 360 in the upcoming months.

I live in a country with no official support and I will have only 2 years of warranty (and this warranty will be in another town) so it's quite important to me to buy a console with no hardware problems.

So are the last ELITEs produced hardware problems free ?

Don't you think if MS had fixed the problem they would have made an announcement about it? It's hurting their sales and I don't think they like that at all. The truth is that, no. It can, and will, still happen. Whenever MS fixes it they will introduce a new model/design and will make sure people know it's fixed.

But on the positive side, it should be less frequent since the new Xbox consumes less power and so heat less.

Can you buy the 3-year replacement plan where you live? If so, just buy it and trade it in store when it breaks... or buy a PS3 (that is what I did, rofl).

No company would make too much out of this other than saying "we have improved the reliability of our console line."  It would be corporate suicide to come out and say "Good news!  We were making very unreliable consoles, but they're much better now."

Just buy the Elite. It's a great console with many great games.

You won't regret it.
Warranty is great so don't listen to these sony fanboys here.
PS3 has its own problems but you'd have to pay to fix it cause their warranty is only for one year.

Or you could buy the premium for $100 less and spend $4 on an HDMI cable and be way ahead.  Unless you think $96 is a good price for black paint, or you *really* need extra hard drive space so badly that you're willing to overpay bigtime for it.

The elite is identical to the arcade except it has a hard drive.  And it's $170 more expensive.

And this thread has gone on long enough, probably too long.
