That project has really been a failure. If you haven't convinced people that your new gimmick/innovation is a compelling reason to buy a new console when you're this deep into its life-cycle then there really isn't much hope left along that path. Abandon that and just concentrate on making the best games you can; if they end up with nifty gamepad features, that's great, but it certainly shouldn't be a focus.
Aside from that, looks like it's going to be a tough year for Nintendo unless they have an ace hidden somewhere or Star Fox turns out to be bloody fantastic (which I'm having doubts about).
Honestly, when testing the viability of the gamepad, I get the feeling they put one in the subject's hands and asked them if they liked using it. While that sounds logical, it's actually not that great from a marketing standpoint. What they should have done was shown a VIDEO to test subjects of someone else using a gamepad, then asked them if that video made them want to play it. That's how the Wii got popular, because it looked fun to play simply from watching other people play. The Wii U's gamepad? Not so much. The only thing I can remember that did a good job of selling the gamepad was the ZombiU trailer.
