Rare Job Posting Points at Cross-Platform Multiplayer Game with Intense Art Style

Since being under the Microsoft House hold name Rare Ltd has been heavily scrutinized over the years for not delivering the same calibre games as they did in the 90's.  This isn't to say they have done a bad job, in fact both Kameo and Viva Pinatas has been two great games with Rare under Microsoft.  Even Kinect Sports performed very well on the Xbox 360. It also seems that Microsoft is more open to bringing back some of Rare's older IP like Killer Instinct which launched back in 2013 with the launch of Xbox One.

On the other side of things we aren't just talking about owned IP being built by external devs, but Rare themselves making a game.  What we know is that Rare is working on multiple games, up to three in fact is rumored.  However we are still in the dark to what these are but both Banjo-Kazooie and Battletoads is heavily rumored because of Phil Spencer and insider Kamp on Neogaf.  However as Phil Spencer once said, new IP is in Rare's DNA so you never really know what to expect from them

Today with a new job listing we learned a little more about this project.  It is a game built under Unreal Engine 4 which could point to being a AAA game, but the more exciting news is that it is that they are looking for people who are experienced in cross-platform developement.  This wouldn't be the first game that Rare has built for PC looking at Viva Pinatas.  Rare is also looking for developers with experience in online multiplayer games at scale which makes it look like a strong focus will be on muliplayer. Lastly the art direction is looking for an "intense mood and atmosphere" which makes me think this will be a new IP since I can't think of any Rare game that would emulate this.

So what could it be?  Are you excited as I am?  For more information on the job posting please click on the link below for a much more information

The use of UE4 doesn't necessarily mean it's a AAA game. Last gen UE3 was used for all manner of games, and I see no reason the same won't be true of UE4. Hopefully it'll be something cool though

Yeah youre right.  I changed OP a little bit.

So what would you like to see from rare personally?  Any predictions?

As long as it still has a strong single player component.

Not sure tbh. Can't say I'm a huge fan of theirs. Loved Conker, but that's pretty much the only game of theirs I ever really played. They've been making Kinect games for quite a bit now, so it'll be interesting to see what they have planned moving forward.

Of course looking at their portfolio their entire wheelhouse pretty much consists of very colorful, and somewhat quirky games, so when they say they're looking for something with an "intense" style with, and somebody skilled in translating mood and depth.....that's not exactly what I picture when I think of their previous games. Multiplatform of course suggests a multiplayer element, and providing an ongoing service is also mentioned. Seems like they're venturing down some unexplored territory here, which I think is great. Get them out of their comfort zone a bit. Mix it up.

Hard to say what exactly it might be though.

I want them to make a new Kameo or something similar. Maybe reinvent the Perfect Dark franchise into something more stylized. I think they'll be showing Battletoads as a sidescroller and this would be why Battletoads was put into Shovel Knights.
