Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer: new exclusive IP at E3, 1st party focused

Looks like they're taking the right approach.

I already own a PS4 and WiiU, and love 'em both. There's only 1 "new exclusive IP" that's going to get me to open my wallet for an XBone, and that's Joe Montana Football 16. If that's one of the exclusives he's talking about, I'm all in.

You forgot Gears and multiple other works from studios announced last year.

And Rare working on a digital title with 200 employees? Try to be more subtle.

Well I'm pretty sure Gears is going to be a CGI, no way they're going to show gameplay this early since they just started developement a year or two ago.

Also yes, I think it will be digital, I think they are going to test the waters, and I have a feeling its going Battletoads but that's not a new IP. And I think they just started these new projects so it might be something short like a digital game.

You test the waters with a small inexperienced team of dev.

A team at Rare is being led by the guy that designed Donkey Kong Country, Conker: BFD, Banjos and Viva Pinata.

Hopefully it's exclusive exclusive

And why would they do that? Why would they make a game with inexperienced developers? That makes no sense. No testing the water in the gaming world means lower budgets, a digital game is perfect for that. Hell it might be retail, it most likely won't be AAA, it'll be mid tier, AA.

That's good to hear. I wonder what is Microsoft's new IP?

Other than that, I expect gameplay footage of Scalebound, Quantum Break, Crackdown 3, Halo 5, Forza 6, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. MS will also show The Division and give an official announcement of Gears 4 with a CGI trailer.

How much it cost to run a 200 dev team? You think a no AAA, small downloadable title would recoup the investment made by MS?

Think about that.

What investment are you talking about? MS has owned Rare since 2002. And I'm not saying they'll never do AAA games, they are working on multiple projects.

That is very interesting news. Its great to see a focus on first party stuff. MS needs to be able to stand on their own first party games. If they can do this, then their life in gaming will be assured.

Perhaps you could more extensively describe the sort of title you believe they might be focusing on, or what you mean by a 'digital' title.

Thus far it does sound like you're implying that a very large studio might be focusing on producing some sort of small game for distribution via XBL.
