Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Help Spemanig Play - Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne!

Told you I was thirsty for more!

Wow, so this is much sooner than I expected. Where there's a will, there a way, and I was recently presented with the opportunity to play Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne! I couldn't turn that opportunity down, so here I am!

This is my third thread of this kind. The first was a thread asking for tips on playing Mother 3, and the second was asking for the same tips for SMT IV. This thread is no different. What I loved and realized about those threads was how much this community became appart of the way I played those games. Especially with SMT IV. Now, VGchartz will always be a significant part of my memory for that game, and largely the reason I love the series now.

The whole thing feels like a thread based let's play, and I really liked that vibe, so I'm asking for your help again! This time, I have a far more experienced grasp on the battle system. I've heard that this game is harder than SMT IV. Just how much harder? I was planning on playing this time on Hard mode. It's caption literally says:

EDIT: I decided against hard mode. The hike in prices are more annoying than difficult. Normal it is! (How unfortunate...)

My mind is like clay, ripe for the molding! Please, help me play Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne!

The game can be pretty brutal. I wouldn't advise inflicting further pain. Normal should do lol

Awesome game by the way!

Ha, that reminds me of the 'Very Hard' setting description in P4G "Do you hate yourself, or are you supremely self-confident?".

Anyway, I've never had the chance to play SMTIII, but good luck with it ^^

Normal is challenging and tense as it is. If I remember correctly, hard more increases the price of items by double or triple, enemies deal more damage and one-hit kills are more effective, so the latter would make the game cheap and frustrating.

I recently got this game as well, the advice would be appreciated by me too.

So I did some research, and this is what changes in Nocturne's Hard Mode.

-50% extra damage received.
-3x Compendium and Item costs, the latter of which makes one of the side quests a huge pain to do.
-Most probabilities are turned further against you. Lower run rate, higher ambush rate, higher status ailment rate.

My only issue is the higher prices. That means you have to grind three times more to get better demons. That's not fun; that's tedious.

-sigh-

That stinks. I really wanted a bigger challenge after managing IV just fine.

I hear this game is one of the hardest SMT games out there, even on normal. Apparently the game is full of 1 hit kill spam moves, and im sure Hard mode would only increase that.

So unless you are a masochist that enjoys dying very frequently id suggest Normal mode.

Well, this goes beyond what I can do for you. This is new to me too : ( Sorry... Hope you enjoy it a lot.

By the way, I'll likely start tomorrow. I want to do a little more research before I start, and I honestly think that this is the type of game that merits a good night sleep and a clear head to start lol.
