I'm not sure about this generation. Both the Ps4 and Xbox 1 already seem underpowered in their first year and a half... Sony will certainly want it to last given their current dominance and the state of the company (I doubt they want to absorb launch losses again anytime soon), but if Microsoft doesn't close the gap more they might be less inclined to ride it out for the better part of a decade.

There's also still that possibility that one or neither will bother with a true console next gen, but who knows? All I'm certain of is that Nintendo will make another appearance.

exactly. microsoft will pull a 360 to force sony's hand as with the ps3 expecting to net a similar advantage for the rest of the gen.

Oh come on, It have sold 3.5m this year, and the Gap is above 15m... if PS3 will sell 3m a year for other 5 years, still the best seller will be the Wii...

The people who are saying yes are the same people who are saying the Wii U won't sell more than 15m LT. This doesn't make sense because the Wii U is selling more than the PS3, so how can the PS3 sell another 15m yet the Wii U can't reach that in its entire life?

At least be consistent.

PS3 will only make it until the end of 2016 if lucky. There simply isn't leniency in the console market anymore for that. Plus sales in 2014 were only 3m, and they'll just get worse, so say it sells 2m this year and 1m 2016 (which is being generous) it still won't reach 90m

Nope.... The PS4 is simply too successful and will quickly replace and kill off the PS3.

If price cut happens (eventual $99) yes, in in sonys best interest to have an many PSs connected to a tv as possible. A cheap PS3 is a way to sale PS services to a lower end market for the next few years as it should be clear as day PS4 will not drop in price at a great rate.

It's still being sold at 250 which is only 100 cheaper than the x1. Price is what stopped it from happening. Software will pass it out soon and the Wii will finish 3rd in that regard. When all is said and done ps3 will have sold a lot more software at retail and a hell of a lot more digital.
