Forums - Gaming Discussion - PlayStation Network to Envelop All Sony Entertainment Services

Sony has elevated the PlayStation Network as the catch-all brand for its entertainment going forward, from movies to music, TV, and games.

The company-wide changes were announced along with "PlayStation Music"--a new Spotify-powered music service for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xperia phones and tablets. This will replace Music Unlimited.

PlayStation Network's suite of services going forward are:

  • PlayStation Store: the online merchant for games on PS3, PS4, and PlayStation Vita.
  • PlayStation Plus: the membership subscription service that offers discounts, free games, and online multiplayer.
  • PlayStation Video: the buy-or-rent service replacing Video Unlimited, offering some 200,000 movies and TV shows across PlayStation platforms, Sony devices, and PCs
  • PlayStation Music: the Spotify-powered music streaming service coming this spring.
  • PlayStation Now: The game streaming service that brings legacy PlayStation games to consoles and Sony devices, and select Samsung Smart TVs.
  • PlayStation Vue: the new, cloud-based TV service for PS4 and PS3 owners, combining live TV with select network partners with on-demand and catch-up TV content. (This service is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2015).

"We are very excited to offer our wide array of network services including games, TV, videos and music, under the PlayStation brand," said Andrew House, group chief executive of the PlayStation business.

"We look forward to bringing even more compelling experiences, and an unparalleled breadth and quality of digital entertainment services and content to our customers."

Sony added that its monthly active users of PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network together had exceeded 64 million as of December 2014.

So basically pushing their strongest brand into everything else.

With Kaz at the helm I figured (and they said) that Playstation would move to forefront of what they're doing. I'm excited because even though we've seen huge corporations come into gaming we've never seen a company like Sony put their full weight behind a gaming platform as a central focus. Those divisions have always been on the periphery.

Warden of Platformers

Does this mean Sony Entertainment Network is Playstation Network again?

And is it Bandai Namco or Namco Bandai this month? I can't keep up with this shit!

RIP Sony, welcome back Playstation?

Around the Network

Many of us saw this coming, this dates back to their PS2 hype talk. Tech just cough up to their dream.

PS is untouchable, Sony will burn and sale any and everything to keep PS growing. Its their future.

So if PSN has an issue everything goes down, even on gaming related services

Its about time they had a cohesive network that allows you to take advantage of all their services. This isnt really a big change from music unlimited and all that but the names all flow together. Really seems like its a playstation all in 1 media hub. Hopefully this means from this point forward hopefully we see all of sony collaborating offering products that help and support the other divisions.

Id also like to see some consistency. I swear if they start renaming shit and dropping some service just to relaunch it under another name is retarded. Go all out and develop an idea or dont do it at all.

EVERY GAMERS WORST NIGHTMARE...THE TANGLING CABLES MONSTER!

So what of my Bravia Smart TV that has all the old apps for Music unlimited etc? Will they be updated to the Playstation music app for example.
