At least I'm not the only boring one.
I guess technically I did start with gen 3 then skipped gen 4. So I could make NES my pre-playstation era favourite. But I only had access to NES for about 6 months, and I never owned one so not sure if I qualify as a pre-gen 5 console gamer. Pre-gen 5 my most played platform was Commodore 64. But that's not a console.

Gen 4: I remember being a disgustingly huge system warrior for Genesis at the time ("Nintendo's for babys! We've got Blast Processing!"), but in the long run SNES I feel was better all-around. Still have it hooked up to my main TV, in fact.
