I don't think so, I chose based on what I really like. Arcanine is my favourite fire type and while I have no "love" for voltorb I am currently using it in a no evolution run. Not only that but the other one is that one bird that I hate... seriously. you could put something that I dispise against it and I would vote for what I dispise. I'm just happy it was metapod and not butterfree going up against arcanine cause I love that bug.
