Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 10 reasons Why SSB Wii U is the Biggest disappointment of 2014

1. I think the roster is just as good as any other. some are not great but you could say that for any of the games.
3. What were they supposed to add? its a fighting game. What did the others prior add?
5. Wolf was just another clone of Fox why is he any worse than Dr. Mario? Cause you like him? really subjective.
9. I think the levels are great especially the new star fox one
10 subspace emmirsary is terrible ive yet to have anyone tell me why its good.

The fact that the online is actually funtioning puts it ahead of Brawl IMHO

Now I would never diss a game just to get attention, take a second to listen before you think this thread is hating.  Try to picture yourself as me, waiting 6+ years for a new SSB, after a rather mellow but admittedly rather innovative and fun successor to Melee.  Now after all the delays and leaks I'll tell you why, in my words 10 reasons why SSB for Wii U was in my opinion, more disappointing than Destiny.

1.  Weak Roster:  I know this is kind of subjective but I think almost everyone thought the roster was decent at best.  Newcomers like Shulk and Megaman actually add to the game, and gives games like Xenoblade much needed notoriety.    While characters like Bowser Jr. and PacMan just don’t play as well, and don’t add very much like the new guys did in Brawl.

2.  Choice in characters is also weak: Is there any reason to have 3 Kid Icarus and 4 Fire Emblem characters?  No one cares that much for those games.

I thought I was the only one.

@OP

All the other stuff you said, I could honestly give a shit less about. I could even look past them excluding the Ice Climbers, whom I loved, JUST because (oh wah), the 3DS version "couldn't handle them". So then fuck the 3DS version, right? Put em in Wii U instead.

However, the one thing that killed/kills the game for me, on Wii U? NO STORY/ADVENTURE MODE. That right there killed it. I've barely played it since I bought it. Smash Tour is god awful. Even some watered down mode like they gave 3DS would have been NICE. Even a basic Adventure Mode like Melee had would have been NICE. But nope. Nothing. Thanks Sakurai. I love the guy, but his logic when it comes to decisons like that, is truly baffling. "Oh well some people spoiled FMV cut scenes on YouTube, even though it's SUPER EASY to avoid those spoilers by just NOT WATCHING the videos......but since they did that, and I feel that ruined the whole mode, even though SSE in general was awesome, I'm just NOT going to give them ANY Adventure Mode at all in the next game".

Right.

Yeah. Fuck that noise. I like Sakurai. But I hope he never makes another Smash Bros. He should have quit after Brawl.

Hey, can we be expecting a top 10 best in the future too??? : )

I think I can only agree with 4 and 10. The new stage builder sounded like a great idea at first! Being able to draw your own stage sounded great! However, the actual thing turned out to be not very good, with the drawing of the stages not being very good. And it lacked overall extra tools to work with, like various blocks and other things from brawl. I was disappointed with this.

Lack of story was a big blow for me. Not everyone will agree, but I liked Subspace Emissary! It made for a grand epic story, tying almost all the characters in and was really great to see those great cutscenes! I wished they had that in Smash Wii U, but because of Sakurai not liking people posting the cutscenes on youtube, he cut story mode from the game. While it is sad, in the end it`s not really needed. It`s all about the fighting.

I actually thought the newcomers were great additions and added a lot of new, creative ways to play! Almost every new character, from Little Mac to Palutena to Shulk to Mega Man all play differently and you have to use a different strategy for each one. They added a lot of new twists into the game! I have so many characters I like now due to these new characters and overall roster!

I`m sorry your mains were cut. I wish every character could have came back, but I guess it couldn`t be. And wolf was a great character who was not a clone at all! But, only a few characters were cut! The losses were minimal! So I won`t fault Sakurai for that. That man has done so much. I didn`t really care for the stickers, so I don`t miss them. There is still ways to customize your characters, so that`s not lost. I also think Palutena`s Guidance was absolutely great! Over 30 minutes of great dialogue about every character, most of it being hilarious, was great! And the new stages are great and interesting! There seems to be a lot of new trophies, and even if they are re-used, it`s just extra nice icing on the cake.

Overall, I don`t really agree with your reasons, but that`s just me.

I don`t agree with this. Aside from having almost the same b-specials. Wolf is hardly a clone of Fox. Majority of his standard attacks are different Fox`s. Lucina, Dr. Mario and Ganon are the most clone-ish in the current smash.

I'm sorry, all i could read was 10 ways to hate on a good game.

No wonder Sakurai feels the way he does, with feedback like this.

So much has been added to the game, and he has listened to the fans and brought back the likes of Dr. Mario, and Mewtwo is on the way.

For Fun and For Glory allows people to find like-minded opponents to battle online against, and the temporary banning feature enforces that. The number of controllers supported is unprecedented - you can't fault the attempts to accommodate as many preferences as possible.

If one game has really made use of the Gamepad, it's SSB4 - the stagebuilder allows for some great creativity. The screenshots you can take no longer need a converter to display on your PC, and you can get creative with those on the Gamepad, too. The Mii fighters and customisable features brings a new element to the game, and of course, there's Amiibo.

You can't please everyone all of the time. Sure, I miss SSE, I miss Snake, Palutena's Guidance doesn't work as well as the codecs in my opinion, and don't care for the boardgame element. But there's plenty of new stuff that interests me, and the online experience is so much better than Brawl.

How anybody can say this is just a lazy rehash of a game made 6 years ago is beyond me, unless they've yet to explore all the new features that are there.
