It's not underrated, it's overhated. How does it play anyway? I'm not a fan of Gran Turismo, what's the difference between a Racing Sim and a Arcade Racer?

A racing sim tries to give you the experience of actually driving those cars. As in, if you wanna make a turn, you have to slow down.

Arcade racers says "fuck it" to the laws of physics and allow you to make sharp turns at 300km/h.

Actually, the online portion of the game worked fine when most critics were playing it. It got punished for other reasons.

The PS4 is a lacking notable racing games so people will buy Driveclub. But maybe an Arcade racer wasn't a good idea.

Did you even read the rest of the paragraph? Its an absolute must-have track based arcade racer. Its an amazing game with very good gameplay. Driveclub will sell because its a damn fine game.

Okay, not everyone agrees with you and that clearly upsets you.

Either way, its doing pretty well.

Now I remember when my dad bought a steering wheel for Gran Turismo 4. I was good at Daytona USA, so I was hyped for it. When I played Gran Turismo 4, I kept bumping into walls.

Just a reminder, the game was supposed to be a launch title, was delayed to nearly a year later, and it still released without the dynamic weather system.
Makes your wonder what the hell is wrong with Evolution. It would probably score in the low to mid 80's if it was released complete,

The weather system was never once advertised as being available for launch.  Evolution always said it'd be added post-launch via an update.  The only timeframe they locked themselves into on it being released to the public was before 2015 (If I recall correctly).  Now if you're wondering what they did between the time of the delay and launch, well, I'd suggest looking at the original launch trailers for DC, and comparing them to how things look now, the differences are stark.  That having been said, the actual concern here should be how their netcode was so terrible incompatible with PSN, and how they didn't catch it before launch.  Hopefully whatever system they were using to test things, has been altered to pick up such a massive oversight.

I think quite a lot of people still like the track racers.  I know that nowadays there seems to be a trend for "open world" pretty much everything but for me, especially on the other PS systems the one game I looked out for on release was.....Ridge Racer.  To this day I think for OTT arcade racing, these still sit top of the pile (apart from the god awful Unbounded last gen).

I think Driveclub, now its all fully up and running, "kinda" fills the gap left by no RR on PS4.

I'm not saying Driveclub should have been an open world game. However, that might have been a good move considering Sony already has a track racer.

Here's the thing, Driveclub wanted to fall between arcade racer and sim. But its not a particularly fun arcade racer and it lacks the depth people want from racers today. NFS and The Crew do a much better job and filling the arcade racer gap.

Personally I think the best direction for Driveclub would have been open world and feel more like a sim racer. Hence, I'm saying Sony should have made their own Forza Horizon.

Drive Club's single player was still great fun even while all the issues were going on. I've no idea why reviewers punished it so much over the online aspect. Was a crazy decision to finish the game off post release, it will no doubt suffer for it which is a shame.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

A game should be punished in reviews if it is broken at launch... This isnt a year down the line after people paid for the product. Otherwise devs will become lazier if they can just fix it down the road.. Between this, early access on steam, kickstarter and preorder it seems that we are being taught to just pay for promises about a certain quality. Sometimes with just conceptual art to go by.

Arcade racers have less realistic handling with the emphasis on fun/excitement rather than realism. It's very weighty handling though so it's satisfying. I prefer Arcade racers overall.

That poll is mean. How could I have played it if Sony still refuses to give it to me for free.
