Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo Wii Reaches 7 Million

That is exactly what happened. In the days leading up to the end of the year, Microsoft shipped 360's until they met their goal of 10 million, with no regard to the retailers they were shipping them to.

SINCE december 31st (i think was the date) they shipped only 500,000 more.

They have NOT reached 10m sold, and reached 10m shipped almost 5 months ago, if i remember right.

Q-T, you are correct.  In Microsoft's last financial statement, MS announced that they shipped 500K Xbox 360s during the first quarter (1/1-3/31/07).  For a system that sold an estimated 700K consoles in the US alone during that quarter, it's quite clear that supply far exceeded demand at the end of 2006.  Total Xbox 360 shipments at the end of the first quarter were about 11M.  You can get a detailed analysis of this 'channel stuffing' here:

With Xbox 360 stock slowly returning to normal, I'm a little surprised that the system hasn't broken 10M sold.  But since the system is available virtually everywhere, MS may have a lot of retailers holding onto stock.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.
