Forums - Sony Discussion - Bloodborne Producer: Targeting 30 FPS because it's better for action games

Uh oh! Let's see if From Software ends up as hated and reviled at Ubisoft!

Enter all the people who know more about video-games than Masaaki Yamagiwa.

More of this "30fps is better!" stuff? What they actually should've said is that they cut the framerate to get better graphics. That's something more acceptable to say.

But trying to say that 30fps is better or more "cinematic" than 60fps (In regards to the framerate alone) is total BS.

Lol, 30fps is still great for action games but 30 is never "better" than 60.

30FPS is NEVER better, so annoying this...

Well Locked 30 FPS is better than unstable 60FPS....

If you want 60FPS pray for an PC version :s.

I swear, how stupid do all these devs think we are?
30fps is a fine level if the improvements from 60+fps aren't worthwhile enough to your project. You can play games just fine at 30fps especially if they don't involve jolty camera movement and aiming. But 60+fps is ALWAYS better.

When he says "30 fps is better for action games", he means "it's better compromise to have much better graphics with 30fps than 60fps with medium graphics". He doesn't says, like Ubisoft, that given infinite power of PC they would still use 30fps. But for consoles, it's always a decision between better graphics or better framerate.

A solid 30 fps will be a big improvement compared to previous games

I was thinking the same thing

Anyway, I'm confident the game will be great, frame rate notwithstanding. What bothers me is this framerate/resolution paradigm. Fans are fixated on it, journalists have integrated it into their taking points, and game producers, who have better things to do, are obligated to respond to questions about it.

Honestly guys, for all I care it could run in 24 fps. As long as it doesn't annoy me much and doesn't cloud my enjoyement with the game, I don't give a damn. Blighttown in Dark Souls felt to what, 10 fps? But I still remember my time with the game fondly. One of the best games ever, imo.

In this case, I'd rather not hear anything from the developer at all. Whether it's an excuse or not, I don't really care about 30fps. Just give me the game, I'll give you my money.

Yes, that's clearly the reason.

FPS > resolution
