Everyone always talks about more characters when Smash DLC is brought up, well tonight I don't care about that. Tonight I want to talk about stages. The way I see it, there are two ways the devs can go about stage DLC:

One, they can make a brand-new stage. Pretty obvious. An example of this would be a new Pokemon stage being made to coincide with Mewtwo's release.

Two, they can make a new stage theme for the Stage Creator. An example of this would be a new Pokemon theme with Pokemon-related assets being released with Mewtwo.

Would you rather receive new stages made personally by the dev team, or expansion packs to the Stage Creator giving the community more tools for making a broader variety of stages? There are other ways they could potentially approach stage DLC, but for now I want to focus on these two scenarios. For the sake of this discussion, let's assume that cost is not an issue (just imagine both options are free), and that "both" is not an option -- this is an either/or scenario!

(It would also be cool for Nintendo to upload "official" custom stages to get the ball rolling, but that doesn't exactly 'add' anything to the game that can't be made by the player.)

I would rather see more stages than the dev team than more stage building tools cause I am sure 90% of the stages from the community will be dick stages anyway so finding the really zomfg ones might not be as easy... Specially since I am paying for it, I want the devs to do all the work

I think a great deal for a dlc pack after mk8's dlc deal would be like 5 characters and 8 stages for like $8 or something

I am guessing Nintendo's mods are gonna go extra Nazi when the game comes out cause I can just image all the inappropriate stages people are going to create!

I don't think it will be too hard to find good custom stages. Best-case scenario, you can rate custom stages, and sort by rating, allowing you to easily browse the highest-rated. Worst-case scenario, there's nothing like that and a few people make threads or twitter accounts for sharing the best stages they've found. This worked very well for sharing Pushmo puzzles.

I do anticipate a lot of dick stages though, unless Nintendo also implements a report function and removes stages featuring inappropriate imagery from their service. Keep in mind even in that case, you can still make your own dick stages as long as you don't upload them to Miiverse or whatever sharing service Nintendo plans on implementing.

Yea well, it is Nintendo and online isn't exactly their strong suit... Specially if you look at the 3ds version and how esssh some 4 player matches can be! Granted its also to do with the terrible Wireless G on the 3ds but still, if I had a choice, based on Nintendo's past, I would rather have the dev stages than hope for Nintendo give us a way in finding the epic user created stages and not the shitty ones. We will see though, Nintendo has surprised me in the past so they might do it again this time and I might change my opinion but till then, dev stages plox

I'm sure we'll have a bustling community that will make it easy for you to find good stages. But of course player-created stages are unlikely to have the potential for creativity that dev team-created stages have, as the devs can bend the rules of the game a bit and create weird stages like the DKCR one with multiple layers, or scrolling/transforming stages (which the stage creator doesn't seem to support). I'm not arguing against your choice. :)

Ideally, I'd like to see both of these. I was just wondering which one people would prefer.

They'll never do it because of the kids and having the sell the amiibo toys and what not, but I'd love to have Bayonetta in the game.

Soundwave, I never had you pegged as the type who doesn't even read the first sentence of the OP.

You're dreaming too hard, Jizz that's not happening. Even if they do DLC, it'll have to be way more expensive than that.
Making new characters for Smash Bros. isn't like making new characters for Mario Kart.

Yes but after the MK8 dlc deal, I can't help it!! Nintendo has set my expectations too high!

That's... awfully optimistic, Jizz. Forget the price, I think it's been made clear that character DLC will be one at a time. I think it's likely that stages (and/or themes) will also (theoretically) be no more than two at a time.
