Don't let the Name i5 fool you, it's just a Dualcore with Hyperthreading just like the i3, the latter is only lacking any turbo boost. Also, that i5 only comes with a base clock of merely 1.3 Ghz due to the relatively powerful graphics core while the i3 with a weaker graphics part has a base clock of 1.7 Ghz (although without any turbo)

It's not hard to just put more hardware into a thing. But the price for this is just ridiculous. What makes it even worse is that the usecase for those kinds of PCs don't warrant high power. Nothing you will do with those will require an i5, probably not even an i3.

Duping people while falsely claiming innovation makes this one of the worst things.

 

Also I'm pretty sure an i3 already easily beats the PS4 CPU in gaming ;)

 

Really depends if the programm or game runs well on multiple cores. You can't simply compare Desktop i3s with those having the U Prefix, since quite some funtions had to be cut out to achieve such a low TDP. If the programm can make use of more than 4 cores the processor in the consoles should beat the i3.

And yeah, there is not much out there right now what can actually use the additional Power compared to Raspberry Pi or comarable Computer.

It's definitely not possible to beat a console in price/performance. It might not even be possible to beat it at the end of its life. I mean the hardware is one thing but consider the form factor, assembly, OS, controller, maybe even a free game. All that adds to the value so if it's for price, PCs will never be able to beat consoles.

Good that they don't have to.

And don't forget that you need much stronger hardware than the console hardware to match the performance thanks to the low level API and optimized games.


u can get a pc that can beat the ps4 for 550-600. thats a bit more than the 450 for the ps4 (with ps+) im pretty sure its possible 2015.



After a little search I found intel NUC desktops which are much better than this kickstarter.

Not exactly a new concept, but it looks pretty cool. It would be neat if you could one day hook up something like that to a tablet to use as video output.

Just ignore the other things I said. Also we're not talking about used hardware. Pretty sure it will not possible to build a gaming PC with the same performance and features of the PS4 nxt year, and especially not after a price cut. You will always have some compromises.

the ps4 has a weak as hell cpu and a midrange gpu.  but yes, it will be hard after a price cut.



I'm after a powerful PC in a smaller size but gamecube size would be better for me.I'm doubting this has anywhere near the level of customization i like, as in being able to switch out components for other parts etc.Not interested.

You won't find a PC the size of a Gamecube that uses off the shelves parts.

Shoe box size? Sure: Cooler Master Elite 130, most if not all the "SUGO" family or Fortress Mini from SIlverstone, etc.

yeah, i came to the same conclusion after looking a few months ago.maybe in a few years eh



To me, this always seems like a failed attempt of Intel/Microsoft trying to reproduce/combat the success of Raspberry Pi and Linux. Probably aimed at people who envy the Raspberry Pi owners but are too afraid of having to deal with something else than the Windows OS they feel familiar with.

But I think it just doesn't work. The key to Raspberry Pi's success is having all the basic ingredients that a desktop PC has while being extremely cheap, extremely small, extremely low power consuming and completely silent.
This, however, seems to be quite the opposite: A ridiculously expensive board with a very noisy micro-sized fan.

Apart from being small and portable,what advantage does this board have? Nothing...
