Garry's Mod Creator Defends Notch After Criticism For Selling Mojang to Microsoft
by William D'Angelo, posted 10 hours ago / 1,088 Views
Garry’s Mod and Rust developer Garry Newman has defended Markus ‘Notch’ Persson following criticism from fans for selling Mojang to Microsoft.
"The whole Minecraft being bought by Microsoft thing is stirring up a lot of anger and stupidity towards pretty much everyone involved," said Newman in a blog post. "The things that matter on the internet and the things that matter in reality are completely different."
"Once you start hiring people your whole attitude changes," he continued. "You’re not just fucking about with your life anymore, you’re fucking about with other people’s lives – and the lives of their families. You can’t just sell out and fuck everyone over."
Newman added that the people complaining are saying Microsoft is going to ruin Minecraft and its community. However, he said Microsoft wouldn't spend $2.5 billion and throw it away by ruining the game.
"Long story short. I’d have done the same thing," concluded Newman. "The money is enough to very much take care of all the staff. The game is in relatively safe hands. Mojang’s legacy is as a huge success story instead of a one hit wonder. Everyone wins. Can you seriously say you’d have done it differently?"

Posting here since there is almost no comments on the new and it is an important thing...
I actually think that for the employees is better to be under MS control, professionals with a commitment to make the 2.5B worth it, than at the hand of people that are good at deving one game (may have gone to oblivion in the next one) but wouldn't be pro at administrating it.
And for selling soul, throwing the game in garbage, doesn't matter what MS does the original Minecraft will probably stay the same. They will do a lot to have success in a sequel or new project (may fail, as the original team could as well) but they won't just burn the investment for giggles... people don't need to be this warmongering towards the creator of the game, even more when ANY of them would happily accept this money and go live a pleasant live.
