Sound issue reported on Kinectless Xbox Ones

It seems like many new Xbox One owners are reporting a specific issue, since the console has launched in Tier 2 countries a few days ago. The problem occurs on Kinectless consoles, and it consists of a loud buzzing or rattling sound when the console is idle (for example, when it is in the dashboard).

Of course it is difficult to say how widespread the problem is, but is seems like quite a few are experiencing it, based on the 500+ posts in the Xbox Support forums on this problem. Other forums, including NeoGAF, report this issue as well. On Twitter, the hashtag #xboxnoise has been launched in order to draw attention to the problem.

It is unclear what exactly is causing the issue, with some saying the sound only occurred after installing the latest firmware update.

Microsoft‘s official reply in the Support forums is to try and replace your console at the retailer you purchased it from, and if this is not possible or if you already have, to send the console to Microsoft for repair.

Updated with MS's response.

I had reab about this, one forum had 80% of new buyers complaining about it. I thought it was maybe specific retailers on one country in general but that makes it seem like its spread across all of t2

faulty hdds?

Gaf has a huge thread on this. First the Xbox fans tried to downplay it, then so much proof was posted that everyone realizes it's a big issue. Looks like mfg problems with a bunch of batches, and the main culprit seems to be a coil on the motherboard. Not quite rrod level chaos, but it's a sad state of affairs. I've heard that massive percentages of EU tier2 launch units are affected, same with US Madden bundles. Another black eye to MS QC.

Sounds like an odd problem to have, especially if it's just the kinectless ones.

It can happen with all models.

From Xbox Support forum to give a ideia... the models that already happened the issue... the best model so far is the 1419x (not a single case reported).

"The list:

Noise:

1407x

1408x

1411x

1414x

1420x

1433x

1416x

1425x

1427x

1432x

1424x

1434x

Model 1540?

No noise:

1419x

Doubtful:

1426x"

That's quite sad actually when you think of the time that MS had to ensure a quality launch.

For these that are curious... that the sound.

If you have this sound you need to contact the Xbox Support but for now people already replaced the console 3 or more times and get fault units yet.

Edit - Video for these that want a YouTube example.

Holly hell, my XOne has this terrible problem for almost 8 months and I haven´t noticed!!!

May that is because my notebook is noisier.

You need to contact the Xbox Support to replace your console... most consoles didn't make this noise.

PS. My notebook didn't make any noice at all (even the fan rarelly get loud)... Lenovo T430.

Why only the Kinectless model? Maybe this confirmes that they rushed making that model, as it wasn't originally even planned to have an SKU without Kinect. Or it could be that it's all from the same "bad" batch.
