Forums - Movies & TV - So i've watched Angry Video Game Nerd The Movie.

I am a James Rolfe fan, i love his game/movies/cartoons/books reviews and especially his character AVGN, Bullshitman and Shitpickle are okay i guess. Ever since AVGN became popular in the gaming community James wanted to make a movie about the worst game ever made E.T.

This movie was like 5 or 6 years in the making and even backed up by donations from fans so most AVGN fans must have been expecting the movie to be huge and epic. The truth is... It is huge and epic by AVGN standards, but even by low budget movie standards it's a shitty movie.

The story is pretty much what the trailers showed us but after they go to the actual desert searching for E.T. cardridges it gets more and more ridiculous and not really in a good way. The acting is terrible and the jokes arn't that funny...I guess that's because i've watched too much AVGN episodes already and the humor is just too familiar.

The special effects are very good, famous youtubers like Nostalgia Critic and NES Punk make a cameo, the nerd is still "The fucking Nerd" and the ending is good because you get what you really wanted.

I guess this movie is not supposed to be taken seriously but it still fails to impress even without any expectations. However for James Rolfe i think it's a big accomplishment and i'm glad that he's finally made his dream a reality. Those who love and want to support AVGN, go buy his movie but like i said... Don't take it too seriously and don't expect it to be a must watch.

EDIT: On second thought, i'd recommend everyone to rent the movie first then decide if it's a buy or not.

Around the Network

I wasn't expecting much because the skits are the worst part of AVGN, it's the actual reviewing that's often hilarious.

So yeah, very "meh" movie for me.

Presentation: 10/10. Amazing what James achieved with $300,000 and a bunch of amateurs (basically). A couple of rough cuts or off sounding lines, but in general almost professional-like quality here, with a tiny budget.

Acting: 4/10. Not totally awful, I guess we couldn't ask for much more. Some better than others.

Script: 3/10. On paper, the general story is pretty cool and wild. It should have potential. But the individual scenes and lines are bad. Not funny 95% of the time.

So yeah, underwhelming. But it was expected.

I recommend against buying it, just rent it, it's half the price and you probably won't watch it again.

Here's a clip of him reading a hilarious fan mail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LX30rK-lCOc

It's probably a lot funnier than the movie.

But yeah, I haven't seen his movie, but I don't expect much from it anyway. I agree that the skits are generally the worst part of his videos.
I just think it's great that he achieved his dream, and I'm happy for him for that. Maybe I'll check it out some day.

Don't forget to rent the movie, don't buy it lol
