Forums - Sony Discussion - Eurogamer Interview with Shuhei Yoshida

I must say that I can't believe him when he says that he didn't know that Tomb Raider was exclusive or that P.T. was Silent Hill and if that is exclusive or not (I'm guessing not), I mean seriously at the very least the P.T. thing must have been known to him.

As he said in the interview "I'm first-party." So no doubt he's dealing with their own titles, close deals with developers, getting them ready etc. While he mentioned Adam Boyes was the one who told him about Silent Hill. If anyone would know about the Tomb Raider deal, this Adam Boyes should.

However, maybe the deal was done that late that no one at SCE knew.

Hmm, pie.

On why PS4 sells so well

Shuhei Yoshida: I'm asking marketing people to tell us why. They've been to people who already purchased, and some of the early data was amazing in terms of the number of people who didn't used to own PS3 have already purchased PS4. So we are getting lots of new customers coming into PlayStation. And some people never purchased any last-gen hardware: PS3, or Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii. So where did they come from?

So lots of new customers coming over from the competition last gen. They must be really happy about remaking TLOU now. Vindicated from all the doubters out there.

He also says:

Another great surprise is the sell-through of The Last of Us. It just released and is doing extremely well. Because so many people didn't own PS3, for those people who purchased PS4 this is the first opportunity for them to try The Last of Us, one of the best games of the last generation.

Looks like things are going well for TLOU

It´s a mistery that VGChartz is strugling to "adjust".

Considering how things are going in Japan and the figure NPD shows us, why Europa and "rest of the world" are giving an almost 200% boost on the PS4 over the Wii needs a explanation.

That makes it even more likely that the game is multiplat btw, the only way I can think of that this could be exclusive is if Sony helped out again, if it's true that Shu didn't even know about this then that means that there is no first party involvement, meaning it's multi or Sony paid for exclusivity and Shu makes it sound like Sony won't do that.

An explanation for why something is selling good in a certain region of the world?   Why does it need an explanation?  They gave figures, it's selling well and that's that. Maybe I'll go down to my local pizza shop and ask why they are selling so many pizzas?   They must be putting something in that secret sauce cause I refuse to believe it....

Playstation has always been a more global brand then any other gaming brand, especially since the PS2. The PS3 is set to outsell the Wii in Europe and has already done it in the rest of the world (Vgchartz data), what do you think the PS4 will do in those markets?

I just have a scientific personality. I like to know the reason why things happens and how elegant those theory could be.

There are facts of Sony figures, but there are the facts of NPD and Japan, so another part of the mistery is missing.

Wouldn´t you like to know if your pizzaiolo is adding crack cocaine to that secret sauce to keep his clients comming back?

PS4 will easily do over 40M in EU and 15M+ in ROW

well past Wii and PS3

In the case of Silent Hill (I was talking mainly about TR), yes, but I don't think Konami need the backing from Sony, money or development help, to make it and their relationship with Sony and MS probably hasn't changed enough to make it exclusive. The sales of the series are not big enough for them to limit their userbase either.
