I don't know man, Destiny looks like the next big thing.  It's like Bungie took all of the good ideas they had from Halo (storyline, the space stuff and FPS) and amped it up ten fold.  I like Halo too but I think it has run its course.  It will continue to sell well for the Xbox community, but Destiny will be huge accross all platforms with just its debut release let alone Destiny 2 plus the other sequels for the next 10 years.

I've said this before, I'm OK letting the Halo series go. I'm not going to buy a $400 console for one game series.

I find the Destiny series more compelling at this point.  We'll see what happens when it's released in the Fall.

Considering that Sony has already reduced manufacturing costs on the PS4, the X1 has an unfavorable chance at taking the lead. Whatever price cut MS makes in the future, Sony can easily respond with theirs. Overall, this all boils down to whether the X1 can deliver on software. However, much of Sony's 1st parties haven't released or even revealed their upcoming games which makes the software battle very difficult for MS to win at.

All 3 pretty much have reduced hardware costs by now so don't think its just Sony. Microsoft has a better chance of a price cut since it does have a lower end GPU and ram.

Ehhhhh, I think that it is still possible for Microsoft to make a comeback, to an extent; but the longer this goes on, and the wider the gap gets for Sony, the more energy and money Microsoft is going to have to burn to try and make up for the lost ground. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that sales momentum is hard to counter, and the early lead the PS4 does translate into extra sales momentum; the gap isn't insurmountable (not yet, anyway,) but it isn't something that's going to 'Fix Itself When Halo Comes Out.' Getting back the U.S., for Microsoft, is likely going to involve some heavy discounts and very cheap bundles, perhaps more Titanfall-esque 'free game bundles,' and lots of other very expensive pro-consumer incentives.

That being said, I have noticed that even those confident that the Xbox will regain the U,S, don't really seem to hold such expectation for a global win, which makes sense. Even if Microsoft DOES regain the lead in the U.S., they likely won't enjoy the same dominance that the Xbox360 had over the PS3; with no reasons to believe that Europe is going to be any less of a 'Go Sony' territory than last time, Sony will likely maintain the global lead for the rest of the generation. (Barring some out-of-left-field success of the Wii U. o.O )

the sad thing is, when the ps4 wins the US, we will hear that "it was too early to tell, you guys just got lucky.."

I completely agree. There is no way the tides turn for the rest of this gen. I mean, they've been on the market for 8 months, time enough to pull out all the big guns, there is obviously no chance for Microsoft to change anything in the 6-8 years left for this gen. It's over, it hurts to admit, but it's clearly over.

/sarcasm

Now, seriously, I don't agree. Lots of shit can happen in te remaining of this gen. This is only the initial lead, but that doesn't mean there's no chance for the other consoles. As far as we know even the Wii U could make a crazy-ass comeback with a ultra-secret emergency-only secret sauce and leave everyone jaw-dropped.

If that was the case, then we wouldn't have seen the standalone Xbox One and the PS4 priced identically. And MS can't just cut the price now because it just unbundled the Kinect and a lot of consumers will be pissed. By the time MS will be able to cut the price in a reasonable fashion, Sony can easily do the same. Also, the X1's motherboard is trickier to make than the PS4's despite using cheaper parts because of the esRAM being integrated into the APU. The PS4's APU is just straightout CPU and GPU in one die.

Things aren't quite as simple as that. While the X1 is overall a lower spec system, it's also more complicated to build (primary due to the eSRAM being built onto the APU itself).

Having more complex hardware often gives you more room for improvement (the initial cost being higher), but it can likewise make it more difficult to achieve said improvements. It's hard to tell yet if it will work for or against MS in the long run.

Yeah it was not a price cut just kinect unbundled. A price cut hasent happened yet. I beg to differ about your statement. GPU and ram cost more on ps4 compared to the Xbox one that is just common sense since one is weaker than the other. Microsoft can easily sell it @ $350 and still make a cut or @ $300 and maybe loose a profit but I have no idea if that's the case. Anyways Sony can't afford losing money on a console at this time since they are losing money left and right. I highly doubt they will make a price cut if Microsoft does one this year.

Nope. Xbox one will surpass it. Make my words....it will surpass it. Xbox one just went down in price a month ago but the truth is that the ps4 has been cheaper ever since it released. Of course that gave it aa huge boost but that price is just recently finally gone.

Globally in the US?
