Forums - Sony Discussion - Some questions about the PSP / Vita

1. Can i still buy all PSP games on the Playstation Store or are there games that arent on there (also the prices would be great!)?

2. Can i import games and play them on the vita or are there any region locks?

3. Any game recommendations? I mainly plan on buying RPGs, but there are probably a lot more good games than that!

4. I own a PS3, so Remote Play will be a thing i will use. I've read that not all games work with remote play so i looked up a list of games that would work.

It seems like only a hand full of games work and none of those that i'd play are on there. Am i missing something or are these really the only games that work  with Remote Play?

5. Are there any hidden costs? I know that i have to buy a memory card, but maybe there is more!?

6. Last question isnt that important, but can i record gameplay of the vita without buying a capture card or something? The 3DS unfortunately needs a expensive capture card to record gameplay, so if its possible without any additional costs that would be great!

1 - Not all of them are avaiable, but you can access the online PSN website that shows all games from PSN and you can see all PSP games that are available digitally: https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/

2 - Yes, it is regions free.

3 - Y's, Muramasa, Final Fantasy X/X-2 and Persona are the best RPGs. Other great games are Tearaway, Gravity Rush, LittleBigPlanet Vita, Street Fighter X Tekken, Uncharted, Killzone and so on. PS Plus signature is a good idea since you will get most of these games for free.

4 - It's just these games, very few. I only tested with Shadow of The Colossus once. On PS3, the games have to reserve memory to allow remote play on PSP/Vita, so only a few did that. On PS4 the reserve of RAM is made by the system, so it works with all games (except PS Move titles). So, Remote Play on PS3 is basically useless, on PS4 it works.

5 - Not really, just the memory card. If you plan on a PS+ subscription, a 32 or 64GB card is the best choice. I got it with a 8GB one that was more tha enough until I got PS+ and now I have a 32GB one full (30 games).

6 - No, unfortunatelly you need the same kind of additions as 3DS. Some PSPs had a video output, so you could just use a PC with capture card. Only Vita TV would allow the same since it uses a HDMI.

Yeaa! Its pretty good! When you play Crisis Core at 1080p with a controller and great speakers! You will both Jizz and shit ur pants at the sametime as to how awesome the experience is

So i can just download a Rom for the emulator and play it? Just like with a N64 emulator?
That would be awesome! I would miss out on great PS Vita games and remote play though... I really dont know what to do!

Yep! You may want to change some of the settings like under graphics, change the rendering mode to "Non-Buffered Rendering" and make sure there is a checkmark beside "Hardware Transform" But apart from that, its nice and easy! And its also avaliable for android and iOS for free too so that kinda helps with remote play. Although most of the games don't work with remote play anyway on the ps3 (Unless u have a hacked ps3 and force it on every game har har har)

But yea. Imo, get a vita on sale cause if u want to play psp games, there are many cheaper alternatives and I am sure that vita will have great deals this holiday season

1. Thanks! I also didnt know that... Seems like the games are fairly cheap, so thats great! :)

6. Ah that sucks. I do have a Elgato Game Capture HD which works with HDMI, but i guess that wont work.

Thanks for the answer!

Hello everyone!

I was thinking about buying a PSP yesterday, because i saw it for really low prices on ebay (~50€ with games).

So my questions about this are the following:

1. Can i still buy all PSP games on the Playstation Store or are there games that arent on there (also the prices would be great!)?

A lot of games are, but not all of them, not even close really. Most of the newer ones are on there, along with the most popular ones, but don't expect everything. A major game people ask about, KH: Birth by Sleep, for example, is not on there. It pains me to say it as a Vita lover, but if you want it mostly for PSP, just get a PSP. You'll get games for cheaper overall, plus you can easily install homebrew on it.

2. Can i import games and play them on the vita or are there any region locks?

Yes, all physical games are playable on any device, regardless of region.

3. Any game recommendations? I mainly plan on buying RPGs, but there are probably a lot more good games than that!

RPGs? You've come to the right place! Demon Gaze, Persona 4, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Freedom Wars, Conception 2, Atelier, Soul Sacrifice, Murusama Rebirth, and so much more.

Also, Gravity Rush, Tearaway, and LBP Vita should all be tried out as well.

4. I own a PS3, so Remote Play will be a thing i will use. I've read that not all games work with remote play so i looked up a list of games that would work.

Nope, you're not missing anything, that's it. The Vita is only viable for remote play with the PS4, on which all games are supported.

5. Are there any hidden costs? I know that i have to buy a memory card, but maybe there is more!?

Other than the memory card, not really. I would recommend you get PS+ though, since you get so many amazing free games from it, a lot of them RPGs too.

6. Last question isnt that important, but can i record gameplay of the vita without buying a capture card or something? The 3DS unfortunately needs a expensive capture card to record gameplay, so if its possible without any additional costs that would be great!

No recording, just screenshots.

Answers in bold.

Just one more thing: PS Plus on Vita sometimes will give PSP games. I have GTA Liberty City Stories and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on my Vita as Plus gifts.

Well... Without trying to not get u to buy a vita cause I think its a good handheld, just terribly managed by its parents. I am wondering, have u ever tried the ppsspp emulator for ur phone/pc to play psp games? Also, if you do buy a psp, u can get a microsd card adapter for like $8 (it comes with 8gb microsd card anyway) and spend another $20 and get a 32gb micro sd card for it (and do other things with it). Cause it is a cheaper option tbh

But with that being said, you will miss awesome games like Persona 4 Golden and etc so if you do buy a Vita, u will probably have fun with it. Just remember what ur in for

I actually didnt even know that there was a psp emulator! :o

Thats quite interesting now... I think i'll try that out first! Thanks a lot!

I will never understand what everyone else saw in that game. Maybe the hype killed my ability to enjoy it. I keot waiting to get to the "good part" and next thing I knew, I had beaten the game
