Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Smash stabilise Wii U sales?

No. If Mario Kart couldn't do much, there's no way Smash Bros. alone would do it. What may do it, is the collection of great games that makes the console very appealing. But most of the bump will be due to the usual holiday bump, it won't settle very high after the holidays, let's not overestimate Smash Bros. now. Consistent releases of titles are what will keep Wii U at a higher sales stream, not just one game.

i know a ton of people who just play mk and smash on nintendo for 2 gens and will buy a wii u just for it.

Well Smash will be in the holidays, so no. When January comes it might settle at a higher baseline but not anywhere near 90k (unless they do a dramatic price drop)

As for Mario Kart, it'll be averaging 50k a week WW going into July.

Which is a great improvement over the sub 25k it was doing last year in july. A 100% increase YoY would be great.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

70,000 in one bad week, and more of 100,000 in a good week.

This (in 2014)

(80,000-140,000 in 2015)

Define stabilize for me

Yeah. Future's looking bright for this console. All the total morons who said that nothing could save the Wii U weren't just wrong, they were dead wrong.

MK gave the console a nice little boost, and it will raise the baseline considerably in the coming months. Summer will be slow, but no where near as slow as previous summers. Then starting with Hyrule Warriors, the console will steadily increase throughout the holidays, until Smash Bros and Amiibo rocket it to new levels. Price cut either pre or post holiday, plus the amazing slew of games coming in 2015 will push the console to a respectable success.
