Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 5 Reasons To Buy An Xbox One

OK... I've done this for PS4, Vita, Wii U, and 3DS... this is the last system of this generation to do now, and I can't honestly leave it out now can I. There is however a small problem. I don't think people should buy an Xbox One. I consider the aptly nicknamed Xbone to be an overprice, underperforming, uninteresting console with little going for it and why that may not be very nice, I think it's a fair assessment. I'd love to come in here and say there where reasons to get this console but I honestly can't find any so

5 Reasons NOT To Buy An Xbox One

1. It can't keep up with PS4.

Despite it being more powerful than the Wii U, it's the Xbox One that seems to struggle at the moment, because the Wii U is happy to do it's own thing. Xbox One though wants to focus on the same games as PS4 and in every case so far the PS4 game has run better, smoother, at a higher resolution, or all three. This bothers me enough that I don't see any games that I'd actually want on Xbox One that I wouldn't get on PS4 first.

2. TV, TV, Skype and more TV.

So, it's a media console, not just a games console. We can switch between live TV, games, apps etc. with a voice command. Well isn't that... pointless. I don't want voice commands and my TV already does all that, it's called the TV remote control. My Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and the smart TV that any new console would be connected to all have Netflix apps already and I have at least a half-dozen devices in this room alone with Skype on them, I don't need another way to do the exact same thing again, especially as none of them make me pay for Xbox Live Gold before I can watch Netflix on them. I want a games consoles. Am I the only person wondering why Microsoft is congratulating themselves for inventing a device that does what we already had in the first place?

3. Exclusives that don't suck.

Microsoft doesn't have any of these. They have games filled with microtransactions, quick time events, and marketing lies. What's the biggest exclusive they have? Titanfall; not an exclusive, it's on PC. What else? I can't think of anything. It's all mindless crap. Ryse was quick time events and microtransactions: the game, and literally everything else is the same stuff we already have. Great, there's Dead Rising 3, but did anyone really want that? I can already play Dead Rising 1 and 2, and they left the comedy in those games. Hell the best Dead Rising game was Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, and I can play that on PS3 without it freezing, (which happened far to often on the original on 360), and I don't need to buy a new console to do it. When it comes down to it, the only game anyone really seems to care about that genuinely is an exclusive is Halo and that's pushed back to 2015, and even then, I'm rather sick of Halo. Bungie aren't making it any more, the story has already reached a decent enough conclusion... do we really need more Halo?

4. DRM, Always Online, Used Games, Online Passes and THU POW THU CLAUUD.

Let's face it, Microsoft may have reversed many of these policies, but I don't trust them as far as I can comfortably spit them. There's already people claiming a new digital only SKU of the Xbone is on the way, and why? Because it won't play used game, it'll need to be online for people to download anything, and they control the price structures. Microsoft will subtely push gamers towards digital distribution as much as possible because it helps them, not because it makes gaming better. That's why they keep going on about the power of the cloud; bullshit marketing doublespeak that we know doesn't mean a thing. In short, Microsoft lies and manipulates far more than any other company... which brings me on to number 5.

5. Build Quality

We all knew Microsoft where liars and cheats as far back as the early 360 days when they knowingly released defective consoles that overheat just to beat the PS3 to release, hoping they could ride out the bad publicity. I've gone through 3 red rings... how about you? I just don't trust Microsoft. I entirely expect that every Xbox One out today will be non-functioning by the end of 2015 due to a technical fault just as bad as the red ring.

Now, I hope that Microsoft pulls something out of the hat and gives me a reason to care about what they're doing but as of now, there's only one console I actively dislike and it's this one, which is a major shame as I'm a fan of the Original Xbox, which I still play to this day, and my console last gen was the Xbox 360 up until 2012 when I switched to the PS3 to try their exclusives. I was an Xbox fan, now I consider both Playstation and Nintendo before Xbox and that's a sad drop for what was for almost 10 years my first choice.

So this is where this forum comes in. Can you convince me that there's a reason to give the Xbox One a chance. I'm no hater or fanboy. Around me right now in this room alone is an Xbox, PS3, Vita, 3DS, Gamecube and Dreamcast, in the next room along there's an Xbox 360, PS2 and a Wii U. I play everything. The only thing I'm lacking is a gaming PC and that only because mine died last year. I've made "5 Reasons To Buy..." threads for every other system, can people give me a reason to buy the Xbox One?

Regardless, hopefully this was an interesting read, and I sincerely hope that there won't be too many angry fanboys making a fool of themselves in this thread. Remember, it's only video games and taste is subjective, and brand loyalty for the sake of brand loyalty is about as stupid as it gets. Be passionate, but let's not attack each other OK...

I just hope you don't get banned for this.

OT: since the first thread of these I was thinking: "But will he be able to get to 5 whole points for X1?"

That's why I was really loking forward to this one.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Nice bias piece you got there, you should submit it to N4G.

You probably ought to change the title of the thread....

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
