If you have the adapter/receiver.

@BasilZero: dualshock 3 + motioninjoy works fine if you are going to use it wired.

This here also works: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-XInput-Wrapper-for-DS3-and-Play-com-USB-Dual-DS2-Controller (just download the package and install, way easier than reading all that wall of text).

Xbox One isn't officially supported yet.

They come packaged together when you buy it.

360 for the ease of use, Dualshock 4 for the features, X1 for ease of use and features but the drivers are not out yet

Also, upgrade to Windows 8.1, its free and it fixes a lot of the issues with windows 8

360 wired controller is nice because you just plug it in and you're done. Works with most games on steam automatically(unless a mouse is a must) and I think most games are made with the 360 controller in mind. I don't have a PS4 controller so I have no clue how well it works.

I've been using Better DS3, http://betterds3.ciebiera.net/
Works fine, but I haven't upgraded to 8.1 yet although windows keeps nagging me about it.
No clue if that disables blue tooth as I have that disabled anyway.

I'll throw a vote towards the Razer Sabertooth controller. :)

Yea ive just installed Motionjoy on my laptop and the ps3 controller works fine plugged in. But im trying to get the ps3 controller to work wirelessly with the laptop and I just cant figure it out. laptops have bluetooth built in. and its on but in motionjoy it just says waiting for adapter to be connected, does not pick up my bluetooth chip

I haven't had problems using MotioninJoy while also having bluetooth, so I think you should be good (also using Windows 8.1). XB1 controller isn't supported on PC yet though unfortunately, so you'll have to choose something else. I personally use the Wii U Pro controller which works through my bluetooth adapter + a x360ce mod that makes games think its an Xbox 360 controller and it works very well.
