Forums - PC Discussion - AMD announces 150$ R7 265 Gpu

Today AMD announced a new graphics card in its R7 series, the 265. The card will be available "late February starting at a price of $149 USD," according to the company.

With the introduction of the 265, AMD stated that they will be adjusting the price of their R7 260x, which "will now be available starting at $119 USD."

"It is with great excitement that we are introducing the AMD Radeon R7 265. Crowning the AMD R7 Series, the AMD Radeon R7 265 raises the performance bar for this class of product by 25% and makes it the most attractive product at its price point," said the chip maker.

Some features of the Radeon R7 265 include 2GB GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit memory bus, Graphics Core Next and AMD PowerTune technology, AMD CrossFire technology, AMD Eyefinity technology, and full support for Mantle and DirectX 11.2.

AMD is the maker of the GPU in both Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PS4.

Does this new card and price point sound good to you for an entry level GPU? Sound off in the comments below.

Basically a Radeon 7850.
This will answer your question: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1076

Expect slightly higher framerates because of the increase in clocks, which may or may not be brought down by the rest of the system. (Review sites use high-end CPU's.)

That sounds like a decent deal at $150...

It's a rebrand.

Wait a few weeks for prices to settle.

Inflated compared to what? The greatest value/$ is always in the $100-$200 range.

Edit: see below

He means the higher end cards are much more expensive than they were a while back. 280x was about $299, now it's $549

I've heard that they're being bought up for Litecoin mining.

The number of high-end GPUs made is actually quite small, and people buying in bulk could easily exhaust supply.

cards such as the R9 270 which was supposed to retail for under $200, but cost around $260 on Newegg. Also, are you recommending the 7850?
