Forums - Sony Discussion - Why the heck is everyone so crazy about the PS4?

Sony simply has a better reputation than the other two companies, from developers and gamers alike.

From gamers, yeah, but developers? I thought M$ had a pretty good track record when it came to pleasing them.

OT: Because M$ overpriced and underpowered the XBOne, not to mention completely screwing up the launch and abandoning 360 development too soon. Nintendo also made similar basic screwups to M$. Meanwhile, Sony learned from their 7th gen mistakes, and has been fueling and refueling the hype train with expert efficiency since E3. They also seem to have learned from Apple how to make "okay" or even "great" features sound like the second coming of Christ.

Actually, I take that back. They didn't get it from Apple. They've always excelled at the latter. "Cell," "Emotion Engine," "Online like the Matrix." etc.

Wii-U did not live up to the hype of Next Gen status with gamer's.

Ps4 and XB1 were actually more in line with what gamer's wanted with their Next Gen hardware, add to the fact that Sony said all the right things leading up to the launch of the PS4, plus the Playstation brand is huge worldwide.

So basically, you put NEXT GEN CONSOLE + PLAYSTATION 4, you get MEGA HYPED GAMERS.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Consoles are overhyped at launch. Always. People go nuts for the hot, new thing, whether it's worth it at the time or not. Grabbing a PS4 or XBO at launch for what they were offering just doesn't gel with balanced ole me. They WILL be awesome later, but that's why I'll get one later.

So no, I don't get it either. Put a killer app on a console at launch (NES, N64, DC and Xbox and even the Wii for example) and that's a different story, but neither of these had that. I think it speaks to the emotional maturity and life priorities of the average core gamer more than anything ...

Some things get popular, some things don't. I attribute 95% to luck.

In the console world the PS4 seems to be the new hotness.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

It's pretty simple to me.

PS3 - 81 million / Xbox 360 - 80 million.

Both consoles had 90 percent of the same library. Very similar graphic power. Both had some good 1st party software. The same holds true now, so none of those things can be the reason why. It all comes down to Xbox One being perceived as the multi-media box and PS4 being the gaming console. Microsoft decided to push the Kinect on everyone, which does nothing to enhance the actually games. Microsoft's opening press conference mention TV 100+ times, with little mention of games. Microsoft pissed off gamers by trying to ditch used games in favor of the "Future". Sony released a console largely the same as the PS3 with more hardware power. That's all gamers wanted, so the Playstation gamers stayed on board and a ton of the Microsoft gamers jumped ship. It has nothing to do with Nintendo. Nintendo last gen sold 100+ million Wii's but it didn't kill the other two's market. Nintendo just does their own thing now, which is fine if you ask me. When they made the Gamecube they were trying to directly compete with Sony and it failed miserably. Now you could own a PS4 + Wii U and the library's are so different that it actually is worth owning both.

Well I can agree with you that I see no point in buying a new console on launch, or too soon after launch. Because of the reason you mentioned, there's not really any games for any console.

But I can also understand that people want to buy a PS4, which they have been waiting for and which looks to be the "better" console this generation. For many people this is the new PS2, a console that will most likely have a massive number of games as times goes. So to use "there's no games for it" as an argument is bad in my opinion, as it's the same always, for every system, and the numbers always grow with time, naturally.

I usually wait at least one year before I buy a console if not the launch title for it is one game that I have been waiting long to play and is only released on that system.

Guarantee of solid 1st and 3rd party support for a minimum of 6 years.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

There was a massive amount of hype initially supporting the release of the Playstation 4 so it really is not surprising that it is simply killing it right now. Sony put the system in the perfect place, in relation to mass media coverage and news support, instead of other companies and the results seem to still be paying off. I bought my PS4 essentially because I knew I was going to have to purchase one eventually and because the hype garnered my interest effectively. Admittedly, I have only purchased 2 games for the system (both indie) so far, but it was still worth the investment for me personally.

Top 10 Games of All Time

1. The Last of Us, 2. Journey, 3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, 4. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, 5. Bioshock Infinite, 6. Zelda: Twilight Princess, 7. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, 8. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, 9. Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword, 10. Starcraft

Add me on PSN. Thanks.

because it was so late... ps3 was realy outdated for 2 years... they couldnt get the power out of the cell...

It has no gaeeeeeeeeeeeemmzzzz!

i got fired recently from an electronic company (hooray?)  and durin the last days all I got was "PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4" , like people would sell both their nuts for it, and it goes out of stock so fast, it doesn't even have games , its pricey and there probably going to be a better slimmer version by the time they release good stuff on it.

but for goodness sake, why is PS4 so great and others are so poo poo? , its so ....... lame, as a console. I'd take a Vita, 3DSXL or Wii U over it. (Xbone is even lamer if that is even possible)

It has plenty of games. Just very few that are PS4 only. Still for the cross gen multiplats it offers the best console version in every case. So there is good reason for fans of various 3rd party franchises to prefer PS4 over every other console. And just like every console early on there is plenty of confidence that great exclusives are coming, and good exclusives are already available.

I think this video sums up quite well the situation with the Wii U, a true gaming console that no one wants.

And don't be fooled by the title of the video or the hyper-link.
