While the console is not selling well, it has enough to easily get a big IP such as this over 1m.

I dont see how its changed? what are you basing that off? As far as Im aware, Wind Waker, Nintendo Land, Super Mario Bros U are still selling. Its not a flop look at its user base in comparison to its sales its fine. The only reason why people are saying these stupid things is cause they are comparing the sales to Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 at the same time frame, once again the user base was totally different for the Wii than the Wii U. Actually it has it was 1.95 mill in December we are in February it would definitely be over 2 million thats including digital. But all you doomsayers are going to be proven wrong yet again you wait and see as time goes you will see once again that Nintendo games have legs.
It should break a million. Anyone expecting much more is crazy though.

It sold only 33k physical copies there.
Still, with the digital sales - and Nintendo games have been selling a lot on that format - it will probably surpass 1 million sales worldwide, easily

A game with almost 40 % of attach rate is hardly a flop.
If you include digital sales, Super Mario 3D World easily surpassed the 2 million mark. So, you´re the wrong one here

All of those games that you have listed are probably selling sub 10K or even lower per week so how's that for "legs" ? User base doesn't matter if the game were truly that good. Actually according to vgchartz it's still under 2 million and if anything nintendo are probably using shipped and digital numbers. Those doom sayers are probably right.
If Retro would have done a 3D Metroid game instead (released at the same time), would it have sold more software? Would it have sold more hardware?
We may never know for sure but I will bet almost anything that it would have sold alt more of both and when/if Retro does a 3D Metroid game for the Wii U it will sell more software and hardware than DKTF
I sold 11 copies of the game among my friends and I just rebought my copy (again), and somebody asked me if I could sold him another copy, the small price drop helped a lot for us.
It'll pass 1million easily, but I don't see it breaking 2m ;(.
