Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer: Next Gears of War Probably Third Person, but Black Tusk’s IP “Paused” For the Right Time

Where did he say that Black tusk's own IP was paused? It may be, but you can't determine that from what he said. Can't understand why everything about Microsoft and the Xbox One must be spun in a negative way.

I feel bad for Black Tusk.

How would it feel to be working on something unique, something you came up with that would reflect the identity of your studio, then one day Microsoft says, "hey, put your original stuff aside, we want you to take this old IP that the original studio was finished with and make it fresh again." That could not have felt very nice.

You really do not know how it all went down.  It could be that the new IP was not ready, fleshed out correctly or had a number of issues that would prevent it from hitting the market.  Also being a new IP the risk is higher since its been said that this is suppose to be a AAA IP.

You do not know if the studio head of Black Tusk asked for the Gears IP.  You do not know how long this has been going on and Black Tusk always knew they would get the IP and start work on it.  There are a lot of unknowns you do not know and trying to think up bad scenerios is no different than someone thinking of good.  One thing you can be clear about is that MS trust Black Tusk with a IP that is very important to their profolio.  There will be high expectations from Black Tusk on the Gears IP just like 343 for Halo.  In the end, whatever Gears game is produced by Black Tusk will be their game.  They can pretty much go in any direction they want.  I am sure at the end of the day, the people in the studio are excited to put their mark on the IP and probably would be looking forward to making it better than Epic.

Nothing you've said, even if any of it is true, invalidates what I said.  There is no artist who would not feel disappointment that they could not finish their own project.  I'm sure they feel excitement over landing Gears but that does not preclude other emotions.

Well as a developer who have had projects moved to me, thats how it usually goes.  I am not a game developer so I put my own spin on it just like you.  In the end, your point was no more true than mine.  So lets agree that in reality we really do not know a thing about what went down besides Black Tusk is creating a Gears game.  We have no clue how the studio is setup and we have no clue if they were always in on what was going down.  Without having any real understanding along those points we can just make baseless opinions that is more about how we feel things went instead of how things actually occured.
