Yeah I get the point of the topic but as many people have iterated
Specs have nothing to do with it. It's the sequence. It's current gen along with the PS4 and XBO.
it's not really up for debate, generations aren't an "opinion" thing, anyone who thinks so is just deluding themselves which is why people get mad. I think it'll hurt some people to know that 3DS and Vita are also current-gen and that the DS and PSP are last-gen, lol.
As for people hating on the Wii U, that's an entirely different matter. Personally speaking, I play consoles for the games, not the specs, the specs are just a tool in the pathway to making good games, and the Xbox never has any exclusives of interest to me so I can get pretty much everything I need with the Wii U and Playstation systems e.g. PS3, PS Vita, and PS4* (and the GamePad sells me on pretty much every multi-plat because Off-TV play for me is great, some people don't enjoy or have a need for the GamePad though in which case if they have a PS4 there's no reason not to go for the slightly better graphics...).
*Though I don't have one yet because it's way too expensive/it's a launch console (and why getting launch consoles is silly to me is a whoooole 'nother topic)
