Forums - Gaming Discussion - X1 And PS4, I Don,t Get It.

I have went to several online sites such as amazon and the likes and they are totally out of stock on both.

I fail to understand why both companies would be so unprepared.
I am not getting one yet btw I was just curious.
Is it possible that they could be that stupid?
I mean one could say this is clever marketing by creating false demand but even that doesn't hold up in the real world.

Just thought I would put it out there as I am sure there are heads that visit the site who would know how this works.
I just find it totally bemusing tbh as they both knew the xmas market was upon us.

So stupidity or false shortage to create demand?
Your thoughts maybe.

It's not really stupid if you can't make enough to meet demand.

both had record breaking 1m+ launch, it's clearly possible they didn't expect them to sell that much

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Try waiting for the numbers; if they're pathetically low then we know there was artificial fixing of supplies.

The BuShA owns all!

1. It takes a very long time to ramp up electronics production. Like six months to a year from "final design" to peak mass production. They just launched early.

2. If you overestimate demand, you end up with warehouses full of unsold product costing you hundreds of millions of dollars. That's much worse than shortages.

3. This console launch has the most actual consoles available of anything new I can remember. More than Wii even. Exactly how were they meant to have more?

OK but I mean with the xmas market launch surely you would try and get production ramped up as much as possible?

And? Don't you think they're doing that?

Ok then fair points and thanks for the explanation.

No stupidity or false shortage, just simple economics at work.

It's the same as being overwhelmed in network traffic on launch day. It is not economically viable to build enough factories to meet initial demand and/or to postpone launch until you have warehouses full of consoles all over the world.

You have to make sure that quality control is being done. If you rush out these systems and they start bricking or something, it could really hurt your company, and in Sony's case could end them. Playstation fans really need to support them this gen because Sony has been bleeding cash for years and the PS4 will be there last console if it doesn't bring them tons of money.
