Pisses me off that everyone's forgotten about MGS4.

then you must be have been pissed for years now

What are you talking about. It won several GOTY awards, sold well and fans adored it:

What I am talking about is that recently (RECENTLY defeats the whole purpose of your post) it has been omitted from so many "Game of the generation" lists, or was very low down despited being praised by those self-same publications.

And has magically disappeared from pretty much all fav lists since a while now.

That's exactly my point.

but you said recently with capital letters

sorry for not taking your "since a while now" statement too seriously. It's so arbitrary and unconfounded that it borders on irrelevant.

10. Hexic HD (360) : I have lost count in all the time I spent playing this game. It's kind of sad as when I bought my 360 I was fresh out of school and spent all my savings on it. I had NOTHING left for games. For one reason or another I was able to download the full version of this game for free and I just played it while listening to my music library for almost a year before I had a job I bought actual games. It holds a dear place in my heart and it wasn't half bad.

9. Street Fighter 4 : Anyone who didn't JUST START playing games yesterday should have s special place in their hearts for this series. I downloaded everything street fighter I could on my 360 and I still play street fighter 2 HD from time to time. but this game just beats that one out. Sagat my favorite charter from way back was made OP in this game and I just loved making people pass the loser controller around lol.

8.Minecraft 360 Edition : Some of my call of duty friends were playing it so I downloaded it and BOOM! hours of my life just went into this game.....digging and digging and digging for diamonds....just never got old.

7. Assassin's creed (360/ps3) : this is one of those things I was reading about in a gaming magazine as they were bragging about the then next gen details that was possible on the ps3 and 360. Those were my days of endless daydreams of owning a 360 and when I finally got my hands on it I was not disappointed...........I am disappointed on how the game hasn't really changed at all since then but thats another story >_>

6. Nba 2k11 (360/ps3) : It's hard as hell to break the nostalgic decision of calling one game the best at something but never play it again to be reassured. For me, the title of best NBA game was held by NBA live 2004. But I think 2k11 has earned that title.

5. Call of duty WAW : This was the ultimate piggy back cod title but following up on the most revolutional tbs in history, feel like it and look different. It didn't add anything but thanks to that level of cloning and the fact that I joined cod 4 late and wasn't really tired of that game yet when this one was new, I enjoyed both almost equally.
So far it is the only treyarch cod I have enjoyed.

4. cod MW3 : When I get my xbox one I am hooking it up to my 360 to record some footage what I will then make into a gif that I will put in my sig so you people know why I loved this game. about 40 days played total.

3 cod MW2 : At 90 days played, only the number one game in this list has used up more of my life. Nukes are still the ultimate goal to achieve in the call of duty world. If only there wasn't so much lag and hackers all over that game I would still be playing it.

2. Cod 4 : What can I say, it is the one game that made me into a fanboy for the 1st time of a series. Thanks to this game I buy EVERY cod in hopes of them being almost as fun. trey arch always lets me down after waw and infinity ward's latest was their 1st miss.......nothing compares to the raw fun that was cod 4. nobody cared about K/D ratios back then and the max kill streak was 7 kills so rushing was enough to get that done. there were no campers....those golden days will probably never return.

1. Pokemon Diamond. : what can I say I spent days breeding pokemon, I spent days training pokemon and I spent days battling pokemon, what makes diamond special? 2 things.
*The introduction of WiFi battles made the game feel more purposeful. Adding an online multi player eliment forced people to learn the game on a whole new level and pokemon has not been the same sense.
*They changed the mechanics in a way that made sense in terms of the separation of special and physical attacks and stats.
And So pokemon diamond was my most memorable time in the 7th gen. Along with the muti player came a way to interact with the players. which was basically through forums like this one. Real online communities were formed. Real undying relationships. As my time as a competitive battler spans from 2007 to 2010 I am officially retired but bonds I have made in those times are still kept. Some were lost but some are on my xvl friends list some have my email address some even on my face book.

Honorable mentions ssbb and halo 3

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

What defined MY generation is:

Wii Sports
Rockband
Wii Fit
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Mario Galaxy
Europa Univeralis III
Batman: Arkham Asylum The Walking Dead (Best story in a game I ever played, poor Batman...)
Skyrim
Xenoblade
Civilization IV

Those 3 first titles made console gaming fun to me again, and Wii Sports together with Zelda TP is what brought me back to gaming once again. Before that I more or less only played strategy games (EU3 and Civ4).

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

For me this gen was defined by:

Metal Gear Solid 4
Super Mario Galaxy
Demon's Souls
God of War III
Gears of War
Read Dead Redemption

Maybe they haven´t forgotten, but *gasp* didn´t like it very much ?

See my post above. It was GOTY. It was a masterpiece.

It wasn´t, the previous games (especially MGS3) balanced the gameplay:cutscene ratio pretty decently.

MGS4 leans FAR, FAR too much on the spoon fedding the story (which was pretty meh)/ cutscene side.

Having an 60 minutes+ non interactive epilogue is just bad.

The amount of cutscenes is part and parcel of MGS.

"It wasn´t, the previous games (especially MGS3) balanced the gameplay:cutscene ratio pretty decently."

Your statement seems speculative at best since the total cutscene count for the two titles in question is:

MGS3: 298 minutes

MGS4: 306 minutes

Once again, I thought the gameplay (especially on higher difficulty settings) was brilliant for a mid 2008 game. That's over 5 years ago.

Decent list.

OFF TOPIC: Seems like you lost that bet that you made due to your "insider" knowledge. There wasn't a part of me that thought you were speaking the truth. Why make up such shit? You can keep your user account though - I hardly ever enforce bets.

EDIT: Oh it wasn't for your user account.

Around the Network

Listed by order:

Mass Effect trilogy
Gears of War trilogy
Uncharted
Assassins Creed
Dead Space
Skyrim
Metro Last Light
Oblivion
Dark Souls
Minecraft

It's close to impossible to provide a sufficient sample of fav lists on several years. So your statement of "recently" falls under the same category.

I was merely making the point that the absence should be significant of something. At least consider that other early gen games still hit the fav lists today such as Halo 3, Portal, Gears, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Lost Odyssey, etc.

Yes, it wasn't permaban (luckily!), but I'm still willing to accept the consequenses of that bet. But I didn't make it up. I think you're aware of the recent Crash Bandicoot rumors flying around? And didn't I say that people would go "wtf" when MS presented XboxOne? Anyways, no reason for us to derail this thread!

While the first 3 games on my list aren't the best games this gen, they sure did define the generation for me. Hadn't it been for the combo of Wii Sports and Zelda TP, I probably never would have begun gaming again. And we had a shit ton of fun with Wii Fit and Rockband!

Yeah but, for me, when it came to MGS4, it feels like I spent waaaaaay more time watching cutscenes and not a lot of time playing. Some of the chapters were so short.

No it doesn't. Here is a very notable example: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-04-eurogamers-games-of-the-generation-the-top-50

Not even the top 50!? Yakuza? Fable2!?!?!? COME ON.

MGS won how many GOTY awards again? From the wiki:

"Guns of the Patriots received widespread critical acclaim, garnering perfect reviews and Game of the Year awards from several major gaming publications, including GameSpot, which claimed that the game is "technically flawless" "

____

Moreover:

"It's close to impossible to provide a sufficient sample of fav lists on several years. So your statement of "recently" falls under the same category."

You're the one who said it hasn't been featuring on fav lists of recent years. My intent was clear at the outset: In reviewing the games of the generation - recently, i.e. at the close of the generation. I.e. now.
