Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 and Xbox One orders 'pretty even' - anecdotal evidence of a UK game store

I live in Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom.
My local game shop Game has split into two separate shops. A toy/xbox shop. Nintendo/Playstation shop. I asked why they did this. They said because Nintendo products are not really selling. Playstation and Xbox are doing really well so to alleviate pressure they split them up.

Onto PS4 and xbone. In the xbox shop their are quite a few xbones lying around on the side. I heard this fellow saying to the shop geeza that he is choosing xbox because M$ is a billion dollar company. Sony will go bankrupt i. He wants to back the winning side. He only plays 3rd party games. M$ is that rich that Sony is never going to win.

The shop person turned round and said to this lad, have you seen the preorders for the PS4 in comparison to the xbone for Game in the local areas? He said no. The shop fellow said well I can assure you that the PS4 has many more preorders in this game and the other few games in the local area. The other geeza was like well yh but thats just because of the hype. Half the people are gonna end up selling their consoles back to game.

After hearing this i went into the playstation/nintendo Game. I walked to the counter and asked the fellow if i could walk in on launch day and get a PS4. He laughed and said no chance. If you dont have a PS4 already pre ordered then you most likely aint going to get one until after xmas.

Different parts of the same country. Would be interesting to see what its like in other areas as well. People in the West Midlands are very price conscious. Cheap. The PS4 being cheaper is a huge advantage in Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas.

I'm in stafford and my local game has much the same story. They have advised that theyve received 3 times the number of ps4 pre orders as they did ps3 (roughly 250 for ps4 as of last week) and that it was a 60/40 split for PS4 (although she then said about 150 xbox one's, so not sure how the maths works).

personally I am amazed that people are willing to fork out £429 on an xbox one for something that is phyiscally larger and less powerful.

It is probably legacy loyalty or something.

The PS4 can do everything the xbox one and better.

In Ireland the PS4 won't be available until late Jan or early Feb if you didn't pre-order. Gamestop said they will be getting a second shipment in before Xmas, but that's only to cover more pre-orders.

On the other hand, the XBO is on sale at the moment, stock is low but I can pre-order one for collection on Monday.

Makes you wonder what the shipment numbers were like for both. I think it's madness having to wait 2 months after launch to purchase a product.
