Forums - Gaming Discussion - Prime Sense bought by apple

I though Microsoft already owned them or was it just the technology that Microsoft bought?

Prime Sense made the original technology behind the Kinect.
anyway seems to mostly be aimed at contact free features for smart phones.

dont know if this thread should be in Mobile or Microsoft discussions because its related to the Kinect but seems the purpose is mobiles.

Microsoft never had any interest in acquiring PrimeSense or its technology. Whether they have a licencing contract with PrimSense or have to pay Apple now for making Kinect1 you'd have to ask MS....

Nothing to do with Kinect any more. Pretty sure Microsoft took the tech and developed it themselves for Kinect 2.

Nah, MS bought Canesta in 2010.

They may have to pay Apple as the owner of PrimeSense, but I'm sure the deal is pretty airtight and Microsoft will have a license for anything they might want to do with Kinect technology.

Now if PrimeSense has some new technology that they've developed... Well, Apple doesn't like to share without a compelling reason.
