Microsoft has pulled the customer support page that offered an option to download Xbox One’s day-one patch on a PC to update your console via USB.

A Microsoft representative provided the following explanation to IGN:

“The site was not an alternative way to take the Day One update and customers still need to connect to Xbox Live for the update. Because of the complexity of this customer support process we’ve actually removed the page and we will work with customers directly to make sure they have a smooth experience.”

Instead, Microsoft explained, the site was intended as “a support tool to help a customer whose console is not connecting to Live” so they can still use the update. Microsoft tells us that there are currently no plans to put the page back up.

I don't' get why they would do this, if Xbox live buckles under the strain of all the new xbox one users, Microsoft could have a catastrophe on their hands.

It seems like a good option so that they can spread out the load and allow people to start playing their consoles faster after getting them

Maybe its because the update doesn't work....or they are going to use it to host the patch for ryse that turns it into a 70% metecritic game.

So now for sure you need to have internet connection at home, or bring your xbox somewhere there is internet.

Dunno, whoever they are, they better hope the servers have no issues at launch.

I felt a great disturbance in the Cloud, as if 600k servers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
