Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One consumes less power in idle and while gaming/playing Blu Ray, is quieter than PS4

The thing that concerns me is operating temperature. There's not a huge difference, but PS4 does run hotter and it's got less ventilation. So it will be important to keep PS4 well ventilated, and even put up on little blocks so there is airflow top sides and bottom. And keep the vents frequently vaccuumed.

The PS4 doesn't run hotter, it runs 40-45 degrees while the XB1 runs 35-49 degrees. And given that the RROD was due to repeated heating and cooling I think being a consistent temp in the middle is probably safer.

I live on a busy loud road lol I don't think console noises are really going to phase me. The boy racers speeding up and down my street....Now that phases me.

I'm confused, from the comments it seems like this isn't correct?

The awkward moment when PS4 runs 4-5 degrees cooler than the Xbox One whilte gaming despite being more powerful.

Personally I'd rather have a cooler/slightly louder system than a hotter and quiet one.

Desktop: AMD Phenom X4 955, ATI Radeon 7950 :: Laptop: Intel i7-3532QM, ATI Radeon 7670m

Consoles: 3DS XL, PS Vita, Zelda 3DS, PS3 Super Slim, DSi, PSP Go, PS3 Fat, Wii, GameCube, PS2

Now Playing: Metroid Prime 2, Dark Souls, Fallout: New Vegas, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Persona 4: Golden

Meanwhile the Wii U peaks at about 32-40W.

Granted, it's an entirely different league, but still.

A lower temperature case indicates the cooling solution is evacuating the heat more efficiently. The higher temperature during gaming, and lower fan noise would seem to me to be the result of the fan running slower.

The XB1 could reduce the temperature, but at a cost to noise. How much each metric would change is unknown at this time, so it's hard to predict how each system would compare for a similar temperature.

It would be interesting to add Wii U to all these comparison charts. Obviously its consumes less power, generates less heat, and is quieter, but it would be interesting to see by how much and if it's comparable in relation to graphical power levels.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

xbox one will save you money on your electric bill.

ps4 will give you a huge electric bill

I can just say that my PS4 is whisper quiet compared to my 60GB launch PS4. haha

Not if you decide to use it for live TV features, as a console usually is in standby or off during the time you simply watch TV.
